Who is NOT having problems with the Telstra os on their 8700?

Installed today. Seems perfect so far.

Istalled it the day it came out! Not a single issue here.

None on my end. Only two downsides I know of is can't turn off the names on the home screen icons and in task switcher it's hard to see which icon is highlighted so I have started reading the app name.

I think you would get a much better response if you just told us what kind of problem you are having.

And I have been using it for a while with absolutely no problems at all.

Who said I was having problems. I'm not, I just wanted to hear some positive reports regarding the Telstra os. Tired of all the whining about how Bharti is better. I stayed on Bharti about a week, went to Orange and then Telstra when it came out. No problems with any.

I will say this, the day after I switched to Telstra I had GSM only while at work. If I went 1/4 mile in any direction I had a strong EDGE signal. Someone that I work with who is still using Bharti came to my location and was kidding me about my crappy signal. Then he pulled his berry out and guess what.....that's right GSM. Alot of this whining about a GSM signal isn't the os at all. it's Cing and T-mo.

I don't know that Bharti is better. Or for that fact, I haven't switched because nobody has said anything compelling as to what you gain by going to Telstra - so what DO you gain by going to Telstra?

Well... maybe it isn't so much Telstra as the Zen them... but the clickwheel is sluggish. Meaning, I will turn it to select whatever I am selecting, and it lags from the time I turn it physically to when it actually moves on the BB screen. But when I switch to the normal theme (BB Dimension Icon) there is no lag at all.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it, maybe somebody can enlighten me as well...

Problems, problems! Lol, I'm the odd man here I guess. Telstra drains my battery much faster, about 20% day than Bharti, and network drops constantly. Don't let me turn anyone off from Telstra though...seems like alot of others have it working fine. Seems that I'm just a Bharti man.

Telstra is working great for me, and I love the new Vodafone theme.

You mean it has themes other that ZEN?

Yes, as with most BB operating systems, the other carrier specific themes (Vodafone, Orange, Cingular, O2) can be unlocked via blackberry.alx modifications.

Not sure if this is exclusive to telstra, but I encountered a couple of issue that I didn't recall seeing in the stock (.284) T-Mobile software.

1st - on one occassion, my wife's normally rock solid 8700g's browser only showed a status bar slowly moving toward completion but nothing happened. Also couldn't send/receive email or use BBCorrector. All of this while the EDGE indicator was on. However, calls placed/received worked.

Only a reboot remedied this problem.

Also, the 8700g is under a couple of weeks old. Battery drains for conditioning occurred at 3+ day intervals after heavy usage. However, once I turned over a fully charged (& newly installed telstra software) to my wife in the morning, I was surprised to see the battery drain to 55% by the middle afternoon.

This was on the heels of exactly 2 calls, both outbound. She works in an area which is saturated in excllent signal coverage. She did not use any other service. I also exited or closed all 3 third-party apps (Google Talk, Google Maps, & BBWeather). Also closed out the browser.

Again, prior discharges took about 3 days or more on the stock software.

Ultimately, I didn't see any wow difference on telstra (in terms of performance, not cosmetic). As a result, I switched back to the stock last night and will monitor these two issues to see if they rear their heads again.

Again, I switched from Cing basic OS to Bharti because there were specific problems, ie, volume, that it addressed. Without a specific problem, fix or added functionality that an OS addresses, do not switch just to get a higher version number - or at least do so at your own peril....

I'm with AlbertoM. I got a new unit so I could have gone the Telstra route but the important question of why has never been answered. The app names on the Zen home screen is enough to turn me off and since I don't put third-party apps in the top five, there is nothing to turn me on.

Agreed. Obviously everyone isn't experiencing the same but Bharti DID fix some problems for me and i feel my 8700c performs better (browsing/call quality..) after going to bharti from the stock cingular OS. I then went to Telestra and had all the issues that have been mentioned. (battery drain, BT, etc). Went back to bharti and everything is working very well.

Ater downgrading to the stock T-Mobile software (.284) and fully charging the battery, it's my belief that this retrograde may have improved battery life.

I understand that this is highly anecdotal, but as I mentioned in the earlier post, after not nearly a day's worth of usage (disconnected charger 4 a.m. to battery check at 4 p.m.), the Telstra-fed 8700g read 55% battery remaining.

After disconnecting the charger at the same time on Thursday morning, the .284 8700g reads 55% battery now. This is nearly two days + 5 hours into the charge. Usage has been heavier - more calls and more emails per day.

Again, this observation has been anecdotal, but I cannot attribute this improved performance to any other changes since I've tried to maintain everything else as constant.

So I'm happy with the stock. I've not seen anymore issues with receiving data (either in the browser or emails) while the indictor still reads 'EDGE' as I did once while on Telstra. The current software does not show any achilles heel and Telstra offered no compelling wow performance difference. As a result, I'm sticking with the stock software until I see an official T-Mobile offering in the future.
