Default Clearing "voicemail" from a data-only 8700c - 05-22-2006, 03:50 PM

Several of my data-only 8700c users have the voicemail icon on their screens; whether they try to call voice mail from Messages or Phone, they are prompted "Sorry, only emergency calls are allowed." I'd expect that prompt as the voice service hasn't been activated ... but how to clear out the voicemail that has been left on the device? I don't see it in onboard help, in the guide booklet that comes with the device, or on RIM's website. Maybe my eyes are growing old ...

One of Cingular's techs offhandedly suggested opening the phone menu and holding down the '1' key ... that didn't work whether or not I held down the Alt key. Any solutions? Thanks, r/
