Personally, the speed differences aren't that great. If you need faster use WiFi or something else. BBs can only do so much.

tethering with a blackberry should give you enough bandwith to do some "quality" surfing on the web.
if you plan on downloading music or movies and stuff, may i suggest taking the wi-fi route.

Your 7100 did not give you 115kb. GPRS is not capable of those speeds. The 115kb is the speed (serial port) between the laptop and the BB. GPRS - on a good day - gives you 30-40kbps.

If you don't know that, I question your entire testing methodology. Sorry to be blunt.

I agree completely. If you want to do actual speed tests, then go to DSL Reports and do a bandwidth download/upload test.

i was using my BB as the modem last night and so what i got 115.2 kbps and it was great. i tested my bandwidth and it was downloading at 86 kbps which was fine. it was actually proforming better then my wireless router which is another story. the other guy was right...if your looking to download large files you have 2 options...use cable or wifi or the other option would be start the download and walk away and comeback the next day depending the size.

Believe me or not BB is good for email receiving purpose but it is way behind Sony Ericsson edge GC 83 PCMIA card and Treo 650 as they open pages lot faster than BB 8700 and 7100..........
i am not talking about Wifi >> i am only talking about Web Browsing using Data Network on Laptops.......

u guys are comparing it with Wifi.......... treo 650 and sony ericsson Edge PCMIA card GC 83 use same Data Network as BB 8700 but at almost double speed.
