Default Weird Incident - 05-23-2006, 07:33 PM

I had something very strange happen to me with my BlackBerry. I recently came off a one month business trip where I was given a company BlackBerry to use so I had removed the data package from my account for the month as I can save $60 that way.

Anyways today I get back and I have the data pack added to my account again and I take the sim card out of my Nokia phone and put it back into the BlackBerry. However I cannot make any calls... when I try i get a barred message. I put the sim back into the Nokia and I can make calls.

I take my wife's sim card from her BlackBerry and put it into mine and no calls can be made either. I was on hold for almost an hour with tech support so I hung up and figured I would call later and in the mean time see what the crew here had to say.

Any idea as to what is causing this? The BlackBerry sat on my desk at home for a month untouched but before I left all was working fine. Do I need to wipe the handheld? Reinstall OS or what to get things back to normal?

Thx.

i had a couple ideas but after re-reading your post they were debunked!

If it sat untouched i dont know why u would need to reload the OS etc...

Give us an update on how this plays out! i am curious to hear!

sounds more like you need to get a hold of your carrier and make sure they added all the serivces back properly

I'm going to do it tomorrow as I just got back in and they are probably closed for the night. I'll post more info tomorrow once I speak to data technical support and see if they can help me out.

I had almost forgot about this thread so I thought I would post results. So during my call to tech support the rep had asked me to go into the call options menu then select smart dialling and set the country code to unknown which I did and then I tried to make a few calls from my BlackBerry so I dialled my office and my other cell phone. It worked just fine which was a relief.

However...

A couple days later I had the same issue so I went back into the call options menu and looked at the smart dialling menu and glanced at country code and it was at unknown so I was just baffled.

I wiped the berry then restored my data and it worked again. I have kept an eye on the issue as it has been ongoing. I have learned something though. This only happens when I make a call and I block my number. For example if I don't want my nbr to show up I dial:

#31#604-xxx-xxxx everytime I block my nbr the BlackBerry does that to me and I have to wipe then restore. If I never block my nbr then it's fine. I always have my nbr show up except for a few that's why I haven't asked Rogers Wireless to put a permanent block on my nbr. This only happened after I loaded the Telstra OS so I am curious if maybe the OS has caused this to occur?

I am going to load the U.S. T Mobile code and see what happens as Bharti slowed down my BlackBerry... the thing I liked about Telstra is that there was no more lags. If the T MO works then great and if not I will just load the Rogers OS and if that doesn't work then it's gotta be the friggin BlackBerry itself.

Update.... downgrading OS was the only fix. At least I am BlackBerry enabled still. I still had to go into smart dialling and change the country code to unknown but it's all good now.
