I'm a recent convertee to the realm of blackberries. I've been fighting getting a blackberry for a very long time. With that said I'm very happy with my blackberry 8700c. I got it two days ago. it's amazing. I've been a diehard Windows mobile smarthphone user since the motorola mpx200. always loved the windows mobile phone. I've also used the treo 650. it seemed to me at the time the best phones. about 4 months ago I went from treo 650 to the new Wm 5.0 cingular 8125(HTC Wizard). I was tired of the treo constantly crashing and having to reload my software all the time. The phone would crash in the middle of phone calls, but I loved the push email (chatter email/fastmail combo). So i needed another phone that had the push email capabilities (and at the time I wasn't going to get a blackberry). So i purchased the cingular 8125. it crashed the first day. had to hard reset. I then loaded up the rom from the QTek 9100 that had push email enabled(couldn't wait for cingular to get off their ass and update the rom). Everything went smooth and i was happy for about a month. Then the crashing started. it was doing it about 2-3 times a week and would reboot during long phone calls. ugghh..so i bit the bullet and purchased the 8700c off of ebay last week. i received it on monday and got everything set up. it was a breeze. I've only had it a couple of days, but from what I've seen so far it totally blows the Cingular 8125 away in stability and email functions. I rarely used the multimedia functions( movies, mp3) of the 8125, thats what my ipod is for.

Welcome aboard! I am a WM/Treo convert as well, and once I made the jump I have not looked back. As you, I rarely used the "extra" features on those devices, and my main concern was stability, email, and phone communications. As you now know, nothing beats the BB for those functions. Keep browsing, do some forum searching, and you will continue to discover little tips and tricks around every corner. If you haven't already, read this:

I too tried the 8125 before the 8700c, and after spending countless DAYS on the phone with Cingular, I was sooo frustrated I said screw it. It did not even compare to the ease of using the 7290 I had.

However, it sure would be nice to have a media player. I really miss that. I am in the music biz and people send me MP3 snippits all the time. It would be nice to be able to click and hear them.

I am thinking about getting the T-mobile MDA: It has no problems with text msging and has the media player. I can still cash out on my 8700. What do you guys think about that move?

But thats the thing, thats for me. I demo'd out the 8125 when we first got it and even though i was skeptical and highly 'Berry-biased i realised that thing kicks ass! It does so much more than a BB its not even funny!

HOWever i still prefer my BB because of whats important to ME. It accels in the areas I need it to accel in. And Blackberry is the best at what it does. Thats why there are so many different devices that specialise in different areas. Different people doing different jobs with different needs!

T-mobile MDA = cingular 8125

MDA = HTC wizard series 100
8125 = HTC wizard seriess 200


same hardware, just a different case for it. so if you didn't like the 8125 you won't like the MDA.

ONe of the best things about the BB is the lack of software... keeps the crashes to zero. I have always found my WM devices crashed when bad software interactions happen... typically after you load all the must have freware. My stock WM devices have been pretty stable.

Yeah I know there's the guy who has a WM device that crashed right out of the box yada yada but my point is that the caliber of SW for the BB keeps it crash free.

I totally agree with that. some of the best WM software that you pay for isn't near the quality of the freeware for the BB.
with my WM device I only had to add resco explorer before it started crashing. haha

I seriously considered getting an 8125. But what put me off was getting on HoFo and seeing countless threads about it. People asked questions, whined, complained and hated on the thing so much, but then I looked for Blackberry threads of a similar nature and didn't find them.
I do not like WinMo at all and I am a diehard WinXP user. Obviously it doesn't translate well for me. Then the idea that the 8125 was a crappy phone and totally unstable just put me off. I didn't see any complaints like that about the 8700.
I wanted QWERTY. I wanted better e-mail use. And I had to have the outstanding PIM functions. I'm the forgetful sort.
In any case, I'm utterly pleased with my purchase. I also have an iPod for such things as music. I have an SE w600, too, if I feel like switching back and forth.
This device was made for me. It's got everything I need. It's the e-mail, PDA and messaging device for a power user. And it's a really good phone, too. I've been incredibly impressed with audio quality and reception.
I *heart* my Blackberry 8700, too. I can't believe I didn't get a BB sooner!

I was a PPC user for five years but finally got tired of waiting for the perfect windows mobile device. I found near perfection with my 8700c on Tmobile. I couldn't be happier. I wish we had better integration with MS Office, but everything else simply works

The really big thing that sucks is Cingular being late on all the upgrades and IM stuff. That is the thing that is killing me now. I have to get the google talk set up working and then maybe I wont complain as much.
