Default Clean Wipe - 05-26-2006, 11:10 PM

How do you wipe your blackberry clean and back to like it came from the factory? I did the security thing but it leaves applications I installed on there. I want my 8700c just like it was when it came out of the box so I can start from scratch.

Any ideas on how to perform this time of a wipe on it?

1. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Intellisync, and then click Auto start.

2. Make sure the only option checked is Update handheld's date and time.

3. Click OK, then click Close.

After completing the steps below, if you want to synchronize your BlackBerry again, make sure to reselect the auto start options you deselected above, or your device will continue to only update the date and time when cradled.

To clear personal data from your BlackBerry, follow the directions below:

1. Cradle your device. (Edit: This does not apply to a 7100 series BlackBerry.
Thought I'd add this cause it confuses people).

2. If the BlackBerry you are clearing is not the one you are currently using, you will see a Redirector Settings pop-up that says your email account is set up to use a different device and asking if you want to change it to work with this device. Click No.

3. Double-click Application Loader, then click Next.

4. If prompted, enter your password.

5. On the Handheld Application Selection screen, click Next.

6. You will see the message "No actions are required." Click Advanced. If you have an 850 or 950 series device, click Next on the Handheld Storage Allocation screen.

7. On the Handheld Data Preservation screen, click to check Erase all application data. Click Next.

8. On the Application Data Backup screen, select Do not automatically back up and restore the handheld application data during the loading process. Click Next.

9. Click Finish. Make sure you do not remove the handheld from the cradle until the clearing process is finished.

When I go to application data loader, nothing comes up. I just get the Welcome to the Application Loader Wizard. I click next and it says something about Reading Java Applications, and then it says Device Application Selection, and that's it. It doesn't say anything else. I can either Click the Add button, or cancel.

Erica - that HAS to be the longest way in the world to do the following:

atuarre - go into Options / Security Options / General Settings
Click the wheel and select "Wipe Handheld".

That will wipe out all customer data, but leave the applications and operating system.

NJBlackBerry..he already did that....but it leaves all the OTA applications installed..he wants to remove those as well...thats why Erica's steps are what needs to be done.

The "wipe handheld" will only remove the data that the user had entered excluding applications

Yes, he did say that. Missed that.

Here's what I recommend:

Javaloader -usb wipe

That will wipe out everything. Everything.

-or- Options / Advanced Options / Applications
Select the application and delete it

I recall reading previous posts that indicated a forced wipe will occur if you enter 10 consecutive incorrect passwords. That worked well when I upgraded from a 7290 to the 8700c.

Last week, though, I received a new 8700c to correct a persistent problem with dropped calls. At the same time, I had them give me a new SIM chip, moving from Blue to Orange. After activating the new 8700, the old one gave me a 505 error, indicating the old device was no longer operational.

After migrating over my non-BB programs (like Pocketday and Berry411) and manually copied the settings for those programs, I did the password-wipe thing on my old BB.

Imagine my surprise when I found that the new BlackBerry had been wiped as well! Quite a nasty surprise, completely unexpected by yours truly. :(

Ultimately, I entered my password incorrectly 10 times, and then used to the wipe program. Then re-installed the OS
