I use the phone function a lot and since the blueberry days I was able to just hold the <ESC> key to hang up the phone, can the 8700G's escape key be programmed to hang up the phone?

Nope; you need to hit the red button to hang up... Same as on the 7100/7130s. Any BB with the green/red button. Escape is escape - not hang up...

Not sure if you can but the new call end button works fine.

Ya took me a bit as well when I changed over from the 7290 to the 8700...

I owned a 7100t before and it can hang up via holding the <ESC> key. I agree the red button works. But any long time BB users knows that the wheel + esc give you one-hand operations that's hard to beat. To have to shift your hand position and switch your left hand and then press the red button violates the bb one-hand religion. It kills the one-hand operation convenience. The <ESC> should at least be programmable?

The same thumb that hits the escape key can hang up the phone. I know it's easy to think that the way you're used to it is the way that it should be. But it's not so difficult to make an adjustment to a new (and actually better - but different) system. No more accidental hang-ups.

I switched from a 7290 to an 8700c...and i still find myself trying to use the <ESC> key every now and then.

I really like the dedicated phone buttons, and you can hit the red button with the wheel/esc thumb.

Its just muscle memory that you have to change/get used to...hell, I type on a computer anymore, and making periods I hit the shift key and get this >.
