Default Echo with 8700? - 06-12-2006, 12:00 AM

I for some reason have people telling me there is "echo" in the line when people talk to me on my 8700. This never happens when I use my other phones (nokia). Why does this happen on the blackberry?

Thanks

That isn't a problem with the phone but rather the quality of your connection to the service provider.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

It is most likely the phone itself. I had a 7100t and people said the same thing. It was intermittent but still a pain in the butt. When I had it replaced under warranty the new handset worked perfectly. I now have an 8700g and it is the best of any of the bb's I've owned. The 8700 is my 7th blackberry.

In my experience it has been the BB itself that causes the echo. I think that it does this because the person that you are talking to is actually hearing themselves talk originally and the natural cell delay is heard by them again as you hear it through your earpiece. Basically they are hearing themselves talk from your speaker. The reason I think this happens is because of the short length of the phone. Try turning your volume down so that the persons voice from the earpiece is not being picked up by your mic. It is a pain, but turning down the volume has worked for me, its just irritating that I have to be conscious of this with every phone call.

Turn down the volume of your earpiece (the built in speaker) or use a headset. My girlfriend always complains of the same issue, but I've found that if you set your earpiece volume to 50% or lower, it's fine.

I use a BT with Echo Managment and I still get ecos from time to time. Its a hit or miss thing it seems.

I have a new 8700 which I am told echos most of the time. Upgraded from 7100 that did not echo. I use a BT headset and still echos. Checked to see if others were having the same issue. Since I noticed one person replaced theirs under warranty and was satisfied with replacement I too will try that approach. I hate having people constantly telling me "wow there is quite and echo".

Can I ask what type of echos? I sometimes get complaints from callers that their own voice is echoing not mine. I do not hear any echos at all.
