While I am able to create a new group in Messenger, I cannot figure out how to actually add members thus drastically reducing the usefulness of having a group

Can someone help me out?

Once your new group is established, go to the old group and click onto the group member that you want to move. There should be a "Move" option when you click the trackwheel.
