Default After changing plan to $29.99, BES icon appears and then disappears - 06-18-2006, 11:22 AM

Hi everyone,

On Friday, I went to my local Cingular store in order to change my BIS plan to the new rate (I have a BB8700c). Of course, while the representative was performing his magic, the Internet and WAP browsers went on vacation. However, following the advice of various members of this forum, I provided relevant information to the rep. Within minutes, the browers reappeared and all was well.

Upon turning on my unit, I note that the Enterprise Activation icon is in place, but after a few minutes and a "screen blink" (during which time I assume that the unit is "polling" my email, the icon disappears. Considering that I am a BIS client, I do not see the disappearing icon trick as problematic. (And I have not upgraded to BIS 2.0--I am still wrestling with making a decision.) Or should I?

I have scoured this board in search of a reference to this issue, but have not located one. I am sure that there is a reference, but I cannot find it.

One other question: Although there are numerous references to charging a BB, there is, according to my results, only one reference to whether it is better to charge (using the wall charger) a unit when it is turned off or turned on. Has there been a definitive answer about this?

Have a great day.

Default A follow up - 06-18-2006, 03:07 PM

Actually, the Enterprise icon shows up every other time that I turn on the BB 8700c, but then disappears (but not always). This is obviously erratic behavior and somehow related to the procedure to regain use of my Internet and WAP browser.

It's my understanding that the 29.99 plan is for BIS only. The Enterprise Activation icon is for BES activation, and this plan won't let you do it. That's why the EA icon doesn't appear in the menu and it is not available under options.

(I tried myself -- I had to go back to the 44.99 plan)

Default Thanks bigboy, but I need to clarify my point - 06-19-2006, 10:11 AM

Thanks bigboy, but I need to clarify my point. Prior to switching to the lower plan, the Enterprise icon always appeared on my main screen. (And I have always been a BIS client.) However, after switching to the lower plan, the BES Enterprise icon appears, disappears, appears again, and disappears again. Although I have no use for the icon, I don't understand why the appearance is so intermittent. It is a bit of a pain that the icon shows up and then goes away and then shows up again. I just wondered if anyone has experienced the same phenomena.

Thanks to all

I had this issue on one of my 7290's. I have a 4.0 SP4 BES. I called T-mo and they said that the reason the icon shows up and then disappears is because the phone was not Enterprise activated on their side. They flipped the BES switch and it remained there. My guess would be they did the same for you. When you switched plans the tech/rep noticed the Enterprise switch was set and turned it off.

Default Thanks Meezerbean - 06-20-2006, 12:01 PM

Thanks for responding, Meezerbean. The issue of the appearing and disappearing Enterprise Activation icon may, indeed, be related to the point that you make about flipping the "BES switch". Considering that I now don't think that the problem is much to worry about, I have decided that the icon is shy, and also doesn't want me to take it for granted.
