Your firmware for the 8700 posted is still the old one from Nov 2005!!!

When are you ever going to roll out new firmware ????

They list the old 4.1.0.175 while other carriers have newer versions that have improved the sound quality and fixed minor bugs etc... for example Rogers.

Do what we all do and use newer firmware from another carrier. It's all written by RIM. The carriers "certify" it (whatever that means). Use the version available from Bharti or Telstra. They work fine.

I have the 8700c.. I only see 8700g updates on the others.

Can someone shed some light into this for me?

It will work. No worries. The 8700g or 8700r or 8700v is just a designation for the carrier's particular handheld. The guts are still the same, and their software works.

I have a Cingular 8700c running the Bharti/Tmo .284 OS and it runs flawlessly.

NJ has it spot on. It all comes from RIM, so there's no need to wait until Cingular "releases" it.

Click the Zen link in my signature line and install either T-Mo/Bharti or Telstra OS. I had T-Mo/Bharti for a long while, and just switched to Telstra yesterday to get the Today themes. I also noticed a slight increase in signal strength. But some have noted a battery consumption loss in Telstra, YMMV. Follow instructions recisely and you will be rewarded with Zen...

This thread - http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=1871 - has the locations of where to download the versions from.

Make sure you locate and delete VENDOR.XML from your C: drive or else the newer version won't load...
