BB Messenger Alerts not working... -
06-19-2006, 05:04 PM
When i get messages on my BB messenger its not making any sound or vibrating...anybody had an issue with is? Or more importantly have a fix?
I have powercycled, tried changing the tone options, my other aerts are sounding fine and working...
I know i can prolly fix this by deleting/reinstalling BBM but thats a last resort...i dont want to have to re-add all those contacts...

Lack of notification happens sometimes with Message Alert. Sometimes you think you just missed the alert, but in reality, the program isn't just working at the moment. In such cases, I usually just exit from Message Alert. You'll be prompted that you will no longer get notification (which is cool, since you're not getting them anyway) and just answer yes. Then start the program again. Message alert always runs in the background and sometimes just nods off.

I definitely appreciate the help, brother! But I am not sure we are talking about entirely the same thing?
I am talking about problems with my BlackBerry Messenger. The IM messenger.
It seems to me your talking about a program called Message Alert?
If we are actually on the same page here and im just ignorant of what your talking about, could you help me out and run through the detailed steps of where to find Message Alert please?
Thanks!

What are we talking about here - email profiles, BB Messenger (RIM's program) or Webmessenger's Message Alert for BB?
I am confused.

Under Edit Profiles>Messenger Alert and Messenger New Message... Make sure Out of Holster and In Holster are the exact same. It should work now. I ran into the same problem, and this fixed it for me.. and because I never use a holster, it's not a problem for me.

In the words of the beloved Rosanne Rosannadanna..."Never miinnndd!"
I thought you were talking about the application Message Alerts.
As to BB Messenger, I have different notifications for in & out of holster and they seem to work just fine.
Sorry <sheepish grin>

Before you go the drastic route...check for one little gotcha in the profiles. For each of in-holster and out-of-holster, make sure that you have two things set:
1. Ring or Ring+Vibrate
2. Volume is set to something other than 'Mute'
I suspect that since it sounds like it has worked before for you, then it must have been properly set, but just thought I'd point that out.
Also, have you tried the double-reset? Alt-Sym-Del, and then do that a second time as soon as the first one reboots? Maybe that will wake it up...

Resolution to the problem -
01-27-2007, 01:55 AM
I had the very same problem and did the re-install and everything. Here is the solution:
Somehow you have set yourself as "Unavailable" --- you need to go into the options section and change the setting from Unavailable to Available then you will start getting the alerts. It drove me crazy too. I assume you were getting the messages but not any type of alert.
Just make sure you set yourself as Available and you should be set to go.

I would also try using one of the other themes on your BB and test it that way. Then see if the icon comes up. Reason I mention this is that on the new TM 8700 software I have, the Zen theme is included but no notifications work for that theme. Yet on the other themes, the notifications work fine.
If it works fine with another theme, then you know it's a problem with the theme you were using. If it doesn't work on any theme, it's the BB messenger (or something in your alerts set incorrectly).
Just a thought...

is it possible that BBMessenger sometimes just doesn't work? I've been using it for a while, then today it isn't working. Both my favourite contact and I see each other as unavailable, even though on our own BB's, it shows as available.
Thanks

Yes, it's possible. I've been in the same room and mine shows two of us as unavailable even when we are. Turning the wireless off then on again makes it available again. There's definitely some bugs in BB Messenger.
As for alerts, they work for me, except that sometimes during a conversation they won't.
