Alright, I have been doing some research and basically narrowed my decision down to buying either the Plantronics 640 or the Jabra JX-10.

You vote! Which one should I get?
Most important aspects to me: Battery Life, Noise Canceling (I don't want to pay $100+ to find out the person on the other end of the call can't hear me).

Price is not important (these two are similar in cost anyway).

Please let me know if you have had the opportunity to work with either of these devices. I will be using this with an 8700c (Cingular).

I use a different Plantronics headset but I would choose the 640 over the Jabra JX10. I wasn't a big fan of the JX10 when it came to overall performance and comfort.

After trying the 640 for two weeks, then the Jabra, both with my 8700c from Cingular, my vote is:

The Motorola H700.

I wanted the 640, or even the 645 to be great, because it's so small, you just stick it in your ear, but it was the worst. Nobody could hear anything I was saying. If I was in my house without even the TV turned on people would say, "Are you in a car with the window open?"

The Jabra, my second choice because it's so sexy looking, wasn't any better.

So, after much asking around, I tried the H700. Awesome. People can hear every word I say. No problems. They all, including the H700 have occasional crackle sounds to you, the user, but the H700 is the only one I can reccomend.

The Plantronics are probably the worst I have ever heard, and the Jabra wasn't much better.

Also note that this is only true in my experience with the 8700c - they may work great paired with other phone devices...

themandril2002, glad to hear you have used both, thank you for sharing your info. Not so glad that I now have a 3rd option, though! Unfortunately, CNET is no help, it rates all three of these devices at 8.0.

Anybody else had the opportunity to use any of these three devices?

The JX-10 is nice and sleek, but I had issues with 3 of them and therefore use a motorola bluetooth headset. The problem with all 3 was this.....the piece that loops behind your ear kept coming unattached from the headset. It kind of clips on and kept coming off....drove me nuts and that was on 3 of them. Plus, I had some complaints about audio quality....just wasn't worth it to me.

To each their own, I guess. I use the 645 and love it. I use it in my car, in noisy airports, and everyone I talk to says it sounds clear, they can hear me great, and it does a great job of muffling the background noise. And in the house without anything else on - I'm told it sounds better than the 8700c on its own with no headset at all.

I used the 640, 645 and the H700. I have to go with the H700. The 645 was better than the 640, but the battery life was very poor for me. THe 640 and 645 have the best overall performance for the person using it, no question. The H700 is a close 2nd. If Plantronics could improve their batteries, they would have the best unit.

I went through two H700's. Both ended the same way - just looking at the folding boom mic would turn the headset off. I'm done with headsets with moving parts!

I have the Motorola H700 and never had a problem with. It's small, compact, loud sound, good sound quality (in/out) and comfortable to wear. Slips easily into my pocket.

It is interesting that most people are saying to go with the H700, and it is almost half the price - I would have never guessed!

I guess it comes down to looks vs. quality. JX-10 and 640 look pretty nice, but the H700 works better. Obviously there are exceptions to that statement, but in general that seems to be the theme.

I didn't even realize there was a 645, I will have to look at that.

I had the hs850, h700 and the JX10.
Everyone complained they couldnt understand me with the h700.
The hs850 was ok and the jx10 was the best.

I have the 640. My only prior BT headsets were a Motorola 850 (I think) and a logitech, both disappointments.



I've enjoyed my 640. No huge issues with battery life, and the annoying business of the ear clip wire getting disloged sometimes isn't too bad. The "moving parts" complaint posted earlier about the motorola make me happy I have my 640.

640 user here. Got it based on the reviews/recommendations read here and elsewhere.

I was at a colocation center last week (think gym-sized computer room with air conditioning going a full speed) and my boss mentioned how well he could hear me while using my headset. That pretty much sealed it for me.

Love the multiple charging options.

I use both the Jx10 & the 645.

IMO, both are very similar with some slight nuances:

Jabra - slightly superior noise cancellation/quality

Plantronics - absolutely love the charging options including the AAA battery - this has saved my bacon several times

I used to use the H700 but found the volume was way, way too low. Not sure if this would be the same with newer softward (I'm using Telestra), however, this was a show stopper for me.

I tested the Jabra JX10 and the Moto H700. Although I returned both, the H700 was the better of the two. I am planning onpurchasing the 645. If that does not meet my needs, I will go back to the H700.

I should mention that I am currently using the Jabra BT250V. Great headset in a quiet environment. VERY bad unit if there is ANY ambient noise.

I have the 640,and I quite like it.I haven't tried the JX10,I've thought about it but am happy with the 640.I love the AAA charging adapter,and the multipoint.I find it pretty comfortable (often forget I am wearing it) and overall have had no complaints about being heard on the other line (I also use the 640 with a Treo & RAZR).

I love my Plantronics 320, so based on that i would go with a 640!

I have used 3 diffrent bluetooth headsets NxZen 5500, Jabra BT 500, and Jabra JX 10.

The JX 10 is the best and most comfortable of the three. I highly recomend it

JX-10 hands down!

I have a 640, 645,and Motorola 850 and this is my experience:

1. 640: great volume to hear, but the microphone is so sensitive alot of people have said it is extremely difficult to understand me unless I am in a fairly quiet area.
2. 645: great volume to hear, noise cancelling is ONLY on the earpiece and NOT on the microphone. Actually a little harder to hear in normal environments due to noise cut-out
3. 850: great microphone, but not easy to hear

I am hoping that at some point someone will come out with a good microphone similar to the 850 with earpiece quality of the 640. Until then, you may end up with $300 of bluetooth headsets sitting on your desk and use a good wired headset as I am now doing. I need the ability to have my clients clearly understand what I am saying and not get frustrated due to background noise or other issues as noted above

I'm sorry, but that's just flat wrong. In fact, the truth is exactly the opposite - the DSP noise cancelling ONLY involves the microphone and the sound that is transmitted to the other party from you, and isn't used on the incoming sound to the earpiece at all.


Works very well for me.

used the h700 on 3 8700c's and on an 8700g nd it worked the same on all 3 changed the h700 and stayed the same. The h700 seems to need to be in line of site or it starts to break up a bit. I also used sevral others and the one I found that works best with the 8700 is the D640. Will also be getting the D645
