Default 8700g sim card erro - 07-02-2006, 08:36 AM

hi - I'm using 8700g w/tmob bis. At least once a day I get a sim card error while using the device. Its never happened (knockwood) while I wasn't using device. But when I'm browsing or whatever the connect shuts down and I go to home screen and see "sim card error". The quick fix is turning off and back on, no wait needed. It resumes wherever I was at before error w/out missing a step.. But its still an annoying problem.

I bought this brand new and received it last Monday. No drops no simcard damage (I've been using this simcard since 2004!!!)

Anyone else ever experience this?

Thanks

Ant

It happens twice a week on my 8700g and started getting it in few days of purchase from tmobile.
I called tmobile support, he said my blackberry was dropped (which never happened )and nothing wrong with the sim card. My sim card is as old as yours.

Does Tmobile sell refurbished devices as new?

I never had problem with the previous blackberry from ebay, that I dropped several times.

Does the SIM card have any scratches on the gold contacts? Maybe you could try taking the SIM card out and blow out any kind of dust in the SIM card slot and make sure it's pushed all the way in when you reinstall the SIM card.

Thanks for the replies.. I bought mine new from tmob. I called to have them verify that this is indeed a new bberry and the rep looked up the imei and told me it has never been used.. So either they're lying or its a factory problem? I've definitely never dropped my phone. The simcard looks fine. I've had it since 2004 so you can tell where I've slid it in and out of devices, but no scratches or anything like that and its definitely in all the way

My cousin just had this problem and he had to wipe his OS and start over to get rid of it.

Food for thought..........

I suggest you try a new sim card, just to make sure that's not the problem.
This happened to me with a 7290, my simcard worked fine on a RAZR and a samsung but it made my 7290 reboot itself ocasionally, another member from this community suggested i change my sim card, and i gave it a try and it worked!, no more reboots or sim card error msgs.(at least not sim card related reboots)

I think I'm going to try a new simcard as u suggested. If that doesn't work then I'll do the os wipe.

Thanks for the replies, again.
