Red face Using IP-Relay - 07-11-2006, 10:46 AM

I am deaf myself and am an owner of a 8700c Cingular BB and I am trying to access IP-Relay.com and I downloaded the application and everything (tried the wap configuration in TCP), nothing works. Is there another text to voice service I can use that works best with this unit under cingular? I have high speed internet.

Thanks in advance techno-gurus!

I'm a new 8700c user and deaf as well. I encountered the same problem.

You will need to set your TCP settings as:

APN: wap.cingular
Username for APN: [email address]
Password for APN: CINGULAR1

If that does not work, you will need to call Cingular (800-304-3044) and ask them to enable your TCP access and activate Data Connect on your device. Assuming you have unlimited data, they should not incur any additional charges.

IP-Relay now works for me just fine. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the instructions! How about AIM access (if any)?

AIM access is easy, as long as your running the AIM program and have 'MyIPRelay' in your buddy list.

There is another relay service, www.i711.com - it seems to work good also and you can use AIM with it as well.

I think the main difference between the two is that iprelay gives out free local numbers for others to call you through AIM. i711 has a similar service, its a 800 for people to call but a paid service.

BUT, how can I access AIM? I downloaded Rambler but keep getting a socket error. I've already updatec my TCP with the wap cingular information. IP-Relay works fine, but would like to use AIM.

Thanks again.

Since IP-Relay works, it seems like you have everything set up fine. Did you call Cingular to enable TCP and Data Connect? It however looks like it is ok though.

I've never seen the "socket" error in my very short time using my 8700, however...

Go to Options > Ramble IM and make sure that your Network connection is set as "Use Device TCP". Maybe that will get it to work?
