Ok, sorry to saddle everyone with yet another questio that i think i know the answer to but I;ll ask anyway. My mic just mysteriously stopped working on my 8700, cingular is sending me a replacement (under warranty). My question is I had upgraded the OS several times nd the latest was to telstra,
.309 i believe, when i get my new 8700 and after i sync my info or even before for that matter, when i connect to desktop manager will i auotmaticall be promted to reload the last OS in the DM?? Second part of that question is if i do a full system backup of my BB will it reload EVERYTHING back on my device, including pictueres from e-mail and recent e-mails that were there before i backed up?? OS Question: I have a new BB a few weeks old now. How do I know I have the most recent OS and should I use another OS that is not BB? I have seen talk about non BB OS, but I am not sure how or why to use that. Any info would be great.

Which carrier? In any case, all of the OSs are written by RIM. Each individual carrier has their own version though and newer versions of the RIM BB OS fix some bugs and give you some new themes.

The main bug that is fixed is the ring volume being too soft if you have used the speaker phone. A search of the forums will give you more info on the new themes Today & Zen.

Some people upgrade with no problems and see improvements in phone quality and others have problems and have to revert back!

Whatever OS is on your phone is the most current for that carrier.

Goi to options>about and you will see what version you are using, if you never upgraded it should be something like V 4.1.0.194 or something similiar...
