Default Just Got a Replacement 8700c from cingular! Look! Pics! - 07-19-2006, 04:15 PM

So my phone has been acting finicky lately it's backlight won't imediatly turn on when I take it out of the holseter, Call waiting doesn't sound, buttons have been feeling a bit used. But it's working great other than that! Anyways called up Cingular told them I had "Dust" under my screen and they over-nighted me a new unit, or at least I am pretty sure it's a new unit. It doesn't say refurbished anywhere on the packaging so I asume it's new. anyways I've got some before and after pics that you guys may find interesting. It's interesting to not just how much wear that holster really puts onto the unit itself! The ledges on both sides of the screen have been worn down so much you can look through them and also see that they have flattened out on the top too!

It's interesting to note the difference in the shape of the metal bezel on the speakerphone. it's more rounded on the newer model. Also if someone could look at my new label and could tell if it is or is not a refurb that would be cool. I know on nokia and motorola they put a big label on it that say's it's a refurb but there was no aparent label on the replacment unit.

Look on the new IMEI lable that should have been included with your phone... also the bag on the phone would have said refurbished... actually - i forgot how I knew mine was refurbsihed, i just saw a sticker on some of the packaging that said refurb.

on the package that had the new phone in it it was labeled with a description that reads:

TRN RIM8700c WIRELESS HDHLD R

But there is absolutly nothing that says "Refurbished Unit" or "Refurbished" or "Refurb"

I've checked the IMEI label and everything.

If they sent you a box with the accessories, software, etc it is new. If they sent you only the phone, no battery, its more than likely a refurb.

My first thought is that you have provided excellent prof of why you, and other owners, should immediately ditch the OEM holster and invest in a quality case. Your old one was practically shredded from the "Launcher." Get a good case before your new one starts getting destroyed too.

Any suggestions? I had a nice case for my 650 which was Horizontal. Hard to find them and ones with a mag to tun off the 8700. If you have any suggestions please post. Most I have seen look cheap.

Firstly I'm demonstrating the difference in the metal bezel surrounding the speaker for the speakerphone.

Secondly I'm showing the wear my unit has recieved since I purchased back on December 4th 2005.

Yes, I haven't even placed this new unit into the holster. I plan to buy somthing that can hold my unit secure on my waist, and protect it even if it drops.

The #1 problem I've had is that dang holster holds the unit so loosely that when the holster inevitably swings upside-down the blackberry falls out! that never happened with my 7290.

I will buy the leather holster if there is nothing better out there but if I can get a rubber skin to put over my blackberry and one that will affix to my belt that is what I want.

I'm going to get the RIM leather swivel holster, since it seems to latch or something into place and it does that magnet thing.

I was not sure what you were trying to show; got it now. Yes, my holster is bad. I had to run after my 2 year old and it fell out and did a nice roll on the street. My BB has since been replaced by a new one due to other issues, but i need to protect it.

That RIM holster (leather) I annot find in any stores. Have you seen it. I have only looked at Cing stores, shoudl i look at the others or will it have there logo on it? What one do you have, is it the full leather case, or it the sleave? If you have a link that would be great.

Why do you think the speaker is different? I think on my box has a date in which they recieved it or it was sent from RIM. Does your box have this?
Thanks

LOL, my boss has made destroying her phone when pulling it out of the "Launcher" an art form! I can't believe nobody is making a rubber case, either for the 8700 or 72xx. She's using the case pictured below (can't post pic's yet, but you can paste it in your addy bar), but the top is not protected and it sticks out so far that the scroll wheel and back button were very difficult to use. I had to cut out the piece of leather between the scroll wheel and back button to make it easier to scroll. Honestly, RIM should offer each model in a rubber case - brilliant!! I wonder why they don't?

I actually like the rubber case u posted. Who makes that and wheere can we but that? Like the other user said about his boss, I have dropped my BB taken it form the case like it is covered in oil! So to have one that I do not have to pull out would be nice too.

Also, On the BB site that holster you posted does not have a belt clip for the 8700. Am I missing something?
Thanks for the help.

Blackberry 8700c Rubberized Hard Shell Case: ExtremePDA

The only problem with that case is the swivel belt clip holds onto the back and leaves the screen and keyboard exposed to the outside while it's held on your belt. But it'll help if you drop the blackberry cause it'll make it bounce.

Thanks for the info today. I sent a order today for the RIM holster. On the BB site they are on backorder, but found out from another site. It was 19.00 plus $5 for shipping, thought it was a fair deal.

What these pictures suggest to me is that there is a real issue with the paint job on the 8700c. I have yet to see an 8700r show such wear in any context.
