All screws on the 8700 series are T6. I am not aware of that any of the screws is T5.

What did it take to get the 8707v housing on an 8700c?

I have T-Mo 8700g (which seems to be identical to an 8700c) and want to purchase the 8707v housing from eBay so I want to know if it's been done before.

There used to be 8700 vodafone housings on eBay a few days ago but they are gone, so I'm looking into this one.

There are no T5 screws, only T6.

Nevermind, I JUST now saw the pics from dropscience. The keyboard for the 8700r looks slightly different than that for my 8700g. My NUM and CAP keys are way more pointy (more of a trapezoid) than the ones in those pics.

Does anyone know where to get 8700c or 8700r keyboards? Seems if I could get that, I'd be able to switch my 8700g to a 8700r keyboard with a 8707v housing.

Not that complicated - just need the damn keyboards! There are only two types - the 8700c and 8700g versions. if you had both, you could use any faceplate available.

if you get the vodafine housing you are good to go, if you get the 8707v (also vodafone) you will need a different keypad.

So Mike, just to clarify, you switched your housing from an 8700c to 8707v, and you needed to switch the keypad? I thought the keypads for the two are the same.

No, he was telling ME (with an 8700g) that I would need a new keypad. The c,r and v have similar keypads. The g and e have a slightly different one. Look at the bottom row, especially the NUM and CAP buttons - they are much less round on the g and e keypads.

I bought to of the silver Vodafone housings the other day off of eBay. I'm sorry if those were the ones you saw and are now gone. I have an extremely scuffed/scratched up Cingular housing so I'm excited about getting the replacement Vodafone housing. I'll let everyone know how the switch went.

I just swapped the guts from my 8700c into a housing for an 8700g. Of course, I found the detailed instructions after I made the swap.

Anyway, I had two complete units (the g was water fried) and it seems to be working just fine with the c guts in the g housing.

I got the idea for switching the housings from this thread, so I wanted to post up and give props to those of you who figure this stuff out for the rest of us.

If I did want to go from the 8700c housing to the 8700g housing does anyone know where I could get the keypad if it is indeed different?

Why would I need a new keypad switching from the 8700c to the solver Vodafone housing, like the one in your avatar? Isn't that what you did and said you had no problems switching? They look exactly the same to me except for the colors being switched.

Please see above. T6 too big. T5 fits perfectly.

The 8700g, 8700v, and 8703e have one type of keypad. The 8700c, 8707v and 8700r have a different type. The easiest way to tell the difference is the bottom row of buttons, it's much more round (especially the NUM and CAP buttons) on the c, v and r.

There are currently NO vodafone housings that fit an 8700g. Someone snapped them up a couple weeks ago. If you want to, do a search for item number 110045166972 (it's a completed listing). That's what fits an 8700g. If you bought that, then you would need a keypad from an 8700g or e. But it looks like you bought the 8707v housing, so you should be good to go since you have an 8700c.

So, recap:

8700g, 8700v, 8703e - keypad with pointy bottom row

8700c, 8700r, 8707v - keypad with more rounded bottom row

I just successfully turned my Cingular 8700c into a Cingular 8707v! After reading the DIY sticky in this forum and having taken off the housing to clean a few times, it only took about 10 minits to do.

Unfortunatly, the 'NUM' and 'CAP' keys are a little stiff and the 8707v DOES NOT fit in the OEM plastic holster. Apparently it is a bit wider than the 8700c at the bottom so it doesn't go all the way into the holster and snap into place. Looks like it will be riding in my pocket for a while until I can get me a leather case.

yea the keys are stiff because a slightly different keyboard overlay is used on a 8707v, even though in some cases is not noticeable and in some is.

leather case is pretty much the only option since there is no plastic holster for 8707, kinda sucks but what can you do.

I had the same problem too, but have gotten use to it and now live with it.
What's killin me is that the keys seem to fit really low on the housing(like they don't rise high enough)
Did anyone else have this problem?
