Default LONG boot time - 07-27-2006, 02:52 PM

I have tried to search about this, but, nothing relevant seems to come up.

It seems the more messages I have in my phone (8700c), the longer it takes on a reboot. I am up to 20 minutes now!

Is this something known about the BB ? Do you guys have tons of messages, and experience a longer/shorter bootup time?

It seemed, when I did a clean hard reset of the device, it started up quick. Then, when I restored my old messages (which I have set to never erase), it went back ot the 20 minute boot up.

Really sucks when the phone does it's known random reboot because of the Bluetooth stack.

Thanks,

Jeff

Your BlackBerry has only 64 MB of memory for the OS and messages. If your using almost all of it messages then the OS doesn't have anywhere to stretch its legs. Try deleting your phone call logs to free up some space.

I can tell you that it was taking about 5 minutes to boot when I had probably 250+ messages. Today I purged quite a few of them and have about 50 or so in there right now (I'm an email pack rat) and it took about 45 seconds to get to the Cingular splash screen. WOW! Big difference. BTW, I'm using the Tmobile/Bharti Applications (8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120) and I have about 42meg free.

I have 8300 messages, at 7MB, 3800 SMS messages, at 1.1MB, and 1029 in the phone call logs, at 225k. And I only seem to have 17MB free at this point. I guess this is what causes the delay, I just thought the BB was supposed to be industrial strength messaging device. I didn't realize I had to purge messages often.

Thanks,

Jeff
