For all of you 8700 pro's out there...I am on Sprint with a 7130, but have a couple of new BB users with the TMO 8700. My question is this, what do I need to do to make the 8700 work as a broadband modem? On Sprint with the 7130 you have to install their Sprint PCS connection manager software. Does TMO have that or do you just plug it in and away you go?

I have an 8700 with TMO, and was able to get it working as a modem by using the excellent tutorial which is posted as a sticky under "Blackberry Guides".

And the connection is not broadband at all. More like dial up.

I appreciate the replies ...I did do a search, but never was able to find that link to the "blackberry guides". Must have been searching wrong I guess, plus I don't use this site often enough so I am not real well versed in how everything in the BBforums is structured anyway.

None the less, thanks for the input and I will follow those procedures to hopefully get those couple of 8700's to work as a modem for a couple of my laptop users.

I squeezed like 19k max from a BB connection. Your much better off getting a wireless card.

The new 8703e on Verizon has true Wireless Broadband. I have just installed it on my laptop and was able to get up to 182kbps service, may be better or worse depending on location.

It was fast enough to surf web pages, but not snappy. My plan it to use it to reconcile my e-mail between laptop and server so as that happens in the background, speed is not critical.

Cost is $15 a month once you already have a voice and data plan.

I get about 150kb/s when I tether my 8700 with T-mobile in an EDGE coverage area.

I think you need a service that offers broadband speed.

I am a newbie in this forum and a new owner of a BB 8707v from M1 a Singapore Telco.

I have just installed my 3G UMTS modem to my thinkpad, got about 115kbps from the network.

Real happy about it so far. Actually, I have been a Palm user for the last 6 years, currently still own a Treo 650. But decided to take a leap of faith, its paying off.
