So you installed the 8703 software and then copied it over on top of the 8700 installation?

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...BB765225CE8C0E

That is the link to DL the 8703e OS, now all i did was install the OS and remove the Vendor file, then added the Blackberry.ALX from Bharti. Once that was done all i had to do was open the desktop manager and it asked me if i wanted to update my OS, i did...and boom! there it was...no issues with the radio nothing...

I tried to upgrade my 8700c just like I have many many times but my DM didn't recognize the software as an upgrade. I deleted the vendor file, renamed the alx
file and added the bharti alx file, opened the dm and nothin', I got nothin'!!

I tried that, no dice. I wonder if it matters that I deleted the Bharti software from my computer. I am running the newest bharti os on my bb but I don't have the software on my computer anymore.

I believe you must have the 8700 software still installed. I tried the same thing you did and it did not work either. Once I reinstalled the 8700 code, and copied the 8703 folder over it, it worked.

Will this work on a Verizon 8703e? Will I be able to run my current Aquaberry Theme and also be able to use all of the current features?
Thanks
Evan

I THINK I got this to work - what version do you end up showing in Options...About? Mine shows 4.1.0.359...

It's working on mine; I installed it this morning. As far as features go, everything I was using still works (email, web, phone). Bluetooth headset still works, too.

I'm using the Wave theme, but I don't see why Aquaberry wouldn't work.

Default Newbie warning... - 10-20-2006, 09:21 AM

Total newbie here... so apologies in advance for the cluelessness. I've tried to piece answers together by reading the boards, but remain a bit stumped.

I'm new to my BB. Have a stock Cingular 8700c.

In reading the boards (and particularly in threads about the ZEN theme) I keep reading about upgrading the OS. I'm currently running v4.1.0.194.

Sounds like to run ZEN, I have to upgrade, no?

What would be the other benefits?

And how would I go about doing so if Cingular hasn't released anything newer?

Thanks...

Charlie

So, then ... do you think that, using this principal, it might be theoretically possible to get the 4.2 software onto a 7100 series handset (or maybe even an 8700 series?), or would that be more or less a silly endeavor?

I only mention it since, if you'll notice, there're themes for all kinds of different sized screens and such available in the Java folders in the installation directory ... just a thought ...

In any case, I might just give it a random shot and see if anything comes of it. Wish me luck.

You know that the 4.2 software for the 8700 is not out.

It's a bit of a Silly Endeavor. You can get (parts) of the 8703 applications onto an 8700. But the 7100 is a different species.

Too true. Meh. Thought I'd inquire.
