Default SMS problem - 10-22-2006, 11:23 AM

Hi all, i am a newbie and have just got an 8700v. I am comfortable with most functions but SMSes received do not display the name of the sender but the numbers. I have looked at all the settings and can't seem to find the problem. Any ideas will be welcome.
Tnx.

its possible that your contacts are one the SIM, copy them to teh address book if thats the case. also make sure their full number is enetered in the address book including the area code and it should be working fine.

thanks Mike, but the contacts are on the device. Perhaps its the area code. Are you suggesting BB does not distinguish the phone numbers from area codes like other phones do?

to my knowledge no phone does, i have had the same issue with many phones, such as nokia and motorola. if i have a number entered as 555 1234 it will not know what it is even if someone calls me with that number it will not show the address book name. now if i have the number entered as 519 555 1234, it works just fine. test it out with one number and see how it goes.

Thanks Mike. It does recognize when i put the number complete with country code! But that is absurd. That means i need to change all the numbers in my address book and include country code. There must be another solution.

I've had many phones that recognize the contact's name without the area code being saved as long as it is coming from your home region. Such phones: Mitac Mio 8380, Samsung S105, Nokia 8890.
