Default Key Sounds when Dialing Phone Number - 10-30-2006, 03:40 AM

When I dial a number from the home screen on my 8703e it makes a sound every time I press a number. Is there anyway to stop it from making the noise. I even put the phone on quiet and it continues to do it. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Goto option or settings. Then screen/keyboard. Turn off Key Tone.

I tried that and then in further searching on this site I found it is not possible to stop it. Thanks.

I was just going to ask this same question. Does anyone expect this to be resolved with OS 4.2?

Nope. It's not possible to silence them...even with the release of OS 4.2.

Yes I am a noob, but I am wanting a BB.

Am I understanding correctly that you can't turn the key tone sound off????? The phone I was looking at didn't make any sounds when I was pushing the buttons.

So is the sound very loud? I also want to text during them boring business meetings but I don't need the tones too loud.

It depends on the surrounding area's volume, but I find the key tones to be really loud. I wouldn't text during a meeting because of it. It is something to consider when selecting a phone.

Huh? The DTMF tones heard when dialing a phone number in the phone application aren't generated when texting.

If you want to eliminate the sounds that the keyboard makes when texting/emailing, go to Options | Screen/Keyboard | Key Tone and set that option to Off.

I meant placing a call, sorry. I'm still trying to wake up. I meant that I wouldn't try to sneak in a call, like listening to voicemail, because everyone would hear it. You can hide the phone going to your ear, but the phone dialing sounds are quite loud - even with key tones off.

How can you make a call in a meeting and not then talk? I am a bit lost. Now if you are in another situation and want to dial without capturing attention, Here is a stealth workaround.

If the number is not in your address book, then go into the address book and add a new number. Give it a short name (assumes you will use it then later delete) such as "111" or "aaa" so it comes up at the top of your list. Save it. Then go into the address book to make the call. Later if you don't need to save the number, simply delete it.
