So I have an OWA account that I was just granted access to at home because of my promotion, and I was trying to set it up through my BIS and can't seem to get the settings right...

so my server is https:://owa.company.com

email is

user name is x and six numbers

I can't figure out what my account name is, and cannot get the settings right...whatever I put in for account name it keeps saying that it can't log in to the server, but then I got to my OWA and can login just fine. My company has a BES but I think I have to move up a few spots higher before they put me on it, any thoughts...?

The exchange server has settings that need to be in place for mobile devices. It sounds like your company has not done that.

A couple of things to look at - Not sure if you're in an Exchange 2000 or 2003 environment.

1st, are you sure that you have the correct URL for OWA access? Another common format is: http(s)://mailservername.yourcompany.com/exchange

2nd, depending on the design of the forest/domain, you may have to authenticate with your username in the format: domain\username

I'd recommend logging in manually (using a standard web browser) first to be sure that you have the proper info to connect & authenticate.

There is also a possibility that your admins are smart and dropping all communication between your mailserver(s) and RIM's network. RIM thought they got cute when they added in the ability to connect OWA accounts via BIS. IIRC, i saw some comment by them saying something along the lines of: "Get your corporate exchange mail without your IT department". Yeah right.. Maybe if your IT department employs chimps!

Well, sort of... OMA and EAS aren't really relevant here. As long as he is setup for OWA he should be able to hook up with his exchange server via BIS, assuming they don't have routes configured on their edge dropping direct access to RIM's servers (like most companies do). The way around that is for the user to setup a proxy on an available network.....wait... if users knew how to do that, they wouldn't be users!

okay, so I cannot get this to work for the life of me, I know that my server is mobile devices capable because I had a Treo 700WX that could retrieve my email prior to this phone...

If I got them to put me on the BES would all of my personal contacts sync into the corporate server, so that if they were looking for

they would see mine first and have to navigate around my personal contacts? Because ideally I would not (nor would all of my personal contacts) like to have all their info in a corp server...

anyone...I know I may be quick on the gun, but would appreciate an answer on this before I go sync my phone to the BES.

You would only be able to sync contacts that are on the server. If your IT dept. has set up a personal contact list for you on the server, you would be able to have both the corporate contacts as well as your personal contacts. If you arent set up that way, you will have to use Desktop Manager to sync your personal contacts.

that's perfect, so my corp contacts will sync OTA, but my personal only with my computer, if I'm understanding you correctly?

I am trying to setup access to my OWA account via BIS but running into problems. We are running Exchange 2003 and can access OWA via the web interface no problem. I think I am running into problem when I input the server address as we use an IP address i.e. 111.000.11.00. Any suggestion on how I can make this work?
