Default Disabling Phone - 11-11-2006, 08:15 AM

Is it possible to disable the phone on my 8700C?

I don't use the phone function due to it's horrific sound quality. However, when I fail to lock the unit, it will sometimes dial a random number when tossed around my coat pocket and/or bag.

Possible to disable?

THANKS!

Not sure about Cingular but Tmo offers a data ONLY package that if cingular offers would solve your problem

Why pay for minutes if you are not using them

You can disable the phone. In your application loader, you can uncheck the box that is for the phone.

Keep in mind that even if you have a Data Only plan, you can still make and receive calls. If you do...you will pay .45cents per minute.

Set the phone for a security timeout and remove any speed dials. that will stop dials from the keyboard but it wont stop the red and green dial keys from working and dialing the last number. the simple method used by most who cary a cell phone in a bag is to slip it into the carrier. IT goes in backwards and then cannot dial.

Another thought, you may be new to the BB and may not be placing the speaker directly over your ear. Other than getting used to a Blackberry the sound is better on the 8700 than older units, at least I think so.

Application loader is on the Desktop manager. Go into the Desktop Manager, then Application Loader and uncheck phone.

OK - I've gone into the desktop manager, but there is nothing listed in my application loader.

"no system software was found by your device" is the message that I get.

Thoughts?

Have you installed the device/handheld software from either the cd or download from your carrier??

tmobile actually has a plan called "blackberry only voice barred" where if you try to make a call it will give you an error saying your call can not be completed, if people try to call the number assigned to your phone they will get a message saying "the tmobile subscriber you are trying to reach is not accepting calls" it is the same price as the regular blackberry only

not sure if cingular has something similar

Is there any way to do this direct from the device? I tried to edit the default settings to deny user connection to phone but it still allows incomming calls.
