Hi All,
I bought a BlackBerry 8707v sim free (with Vodafone branding) on eBay recently and everything was fine. I had a 7290 from the company I work for with an Irish O2 subscription. I switched the sims and synch'ed up the new BlackBerry and all was well and everything worked as it should.
However, I went down to the country a few times in recent weeks and noticed a problem that when I made a call the call would keep going after I pressed the hang up button for over a minute which was really annoying. When I go to a more built up area with better signal the phone works as normal. It does not matter if I have 3G, 3g, GPRS, or GSM reception in these areas, the phone simply refuses to hang up. If I am in Dublin or near a major town there is no issue. I thought it might be a handset issue so I put my own private Vodafone Ireland sim into it and it worked as normal, again no matter how weak the signal was. I then thought it might be a SIM card issue and tried several other O2 sim cards but all gave the same results as the company O2 sim.
I have to assume this is down to the O2 network in certain areas. Has anyone had any similar experiences? O2 flatly deny their network is responsible, but I suspect as they do not support the 8707v as it was never tested on their network and this is why I am having this fun with the unit. Any ideas anyone?
