Why not get the 8700 NOW, keep it in tip-top shape, then sell the 8700 AFTER you get the 8800???

ETA is in the Feb-March 2007 time frame from what I am hearing. If you don't want to wait then buy the 8700r now and sell it later on down the road or keep it as a back up device.

I have both the Pearl and the 8700g. From the specs I've seen, the difference in 8700 and 8800 dimensions is not that much. The main difference between the two (besides OS 4.2, which has some great features) is the rollerball in the 8800 and the trackwheel in the 8700. I love my Pearl, but have mixed feelings about the rollerball. It feels kinda cheap, and gets fouled by dust and other pocket-debris very easily. Given this, plus the uncertainty as to when the 8800 will be released, I'd go for the 8700. It is an excellent machine. It's only shortcoming is that it is OS 4.1. I LOVE the voice-command feature of OS 4.2, and the ability to make/send voice messages via MMS.

You never can catch up the latest technology.
By the time 8800 release, they might have something newer.
Get whatever you like now, enjoy it, and get the 8800 later. However, it is your choice.
If I were you, I would not wait.

I would suggest the 8700 now.
Especially since it will be awhile before we even know that the final configuration is for the 8800, what pricing is like, what carriers get it first etc.
The 8700 is a very nice model. You may find that even after the 8800 comes out, that you may prefer the 8700. If that's the case then your far better off getting it now and enjoying it.
If that is not the case, as least you will have had the 8700 experience so that you will know what's important to you on a modern full qwerty BlackBerry. Therefore you will be better prepared to decide which of the new upcoming models suite you best.
Finally, Based on what I've heard here on the forum, there are two 8800 models. One with a camera and one without. However further research indicates that not only will that be the case, but the actual sizes and form factors are different as well.
So far it appears that the Indigo 8800 will be the first one released and without a camera. This model is wider and appears to have a larger keyboard than the 2nd model known as Crimson 8800. The Crimson will have a camera and some other features unique to that model, however it's narrower and therefore the keyboard will be more cramped.
It's these differences that will make quite a difference in how the two feel and operate. So by getting the 8700 now you will have a base of experience from which to use as a helpful guide to your wants and needs in the upcoming models.
Cheers......

I think that is great advice. If I were him, I would get the 8700r as it's one of the toughest BB's ever built, and you won't be sorry you bought it. When the 8800 comes out, take a look at it...play with it a little, and like another poster mentioned, if you buy it then keep the 8700r for backup. Rogers will also let you renew your contract annually, so the sooner you buy the 8700r, the sooner you can get into an 8800 for less money.

I have the 8700g by tmobile and it would be a real waste for you not to purchase an 8700. The hotest phone out there. Screw it, get the 8700 now and buy another BERrY in feb or whenever the 8800 comes out. That's what I'm gonna do anyway. And personally I don't think a BErRY is a BERRy unless its a full individual key pad. Good luck, pull out a card, swipe now and worry later.

Right on man! The 8700 is the best device out there hands down! ( Been through just about everyother so called smart device) and I refuse to carry anything less. Get ready to have that thing clued to your hands
