Default holster design issue - 11-22-2006, 11:46 AM

Ok, I'll admit it: I'm a big-time call-screener. There are simply a lot of people calling me (not creditors, acquaintences and an ex-wife!) whom I don't want to talk to.

The problem is that if the phone rings while it's in the holster, I have trouble getting it out to see who it is without actually answering the phone. I guess the keys brush the holster edge on the way out.

Is there a fix for this?

Try a different holster. I use the Blackberry branded leather one (not the TMobile one) for around $18 with shipping. I've tried other holsters and have major issues with most of them except this one.

Our sponsors have many cases available for a good price. Definately check to see see if they have something you like.

I also really enjoy my RIM-branded Leather holster.

I'm a bit confused. Is auto-answer on (if so, just turn it off) or are you inadvertently pressing a button to pickup the call when unholstering your BB?

I'm the same way - I don't just answer calls by default. It has to be someone I know, and even then if I'm not expecting a call from them, they can speak to my secretary: Ms. Voicemail.

I haven't had a problem with answering calls by mistake when unholstering.

I've had the same issue. I grab the phone by the sides and pop it out of the holster. Only thing I can think of is that I'm pressing in on the scroll wheel. I ordered a replacement case from eBay a day or so ago for ~$15 with shipping. Hopefully this will resolve the problem. I've only had mine for about 4 weeks, so I am still getting used to everything.

I bought a brand new Vaja horizontal pouch and I find that it is extremely difficult to remove from the holster... so much so that I cannot even use it. I am currently using the RIM leather holster and find that I have no problem using that.

Anyone want to purchase a beautiful but non-functioning Vaja Case? ;o)

A lot of people complain about the stock holster design that comes with the 8700 BB. I personally love it. I find it's perfect for what I need. The leather cases are all too bulky and the one or two clip options i've seen just don't form fit the bb like this one does.

If it is set to lock when holstered it would prevent this.

Check out the Seidio holster. Much better than the stock one. See my tips site - Case page.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700c: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I never had that problem with the OEM plastic holster. I always grab the Berry from the bottom and slide it up. It seems to come out easier than grabbing it on the side. But I now use the OEM leather case. I've put the 8707v housing on my 8700c and the new housing doesn't fit in the plastic holder, thus the leather case. Never had that problem with either one.

I can also recommend the Seidio holster. It just feels a lot more secure than the OEM holster. They also sell a rubber skin and the "Skinned Holster" if you care to further protect your BB. Just be sure to get the correct holster for your exact model as they are not the same across the 87xx series.

I know that it's time consuming, but if you have the direct numbers of the folks that you do not wish to speak with, then you could create a ringtone just for that class of folks.

I use the RIM case for my former 7100i and it stays protected and easy to unholster. The only problem that I have noticed is when I place the phone all the way into the case, then the screen light comes on and will not go off. I have to holster it about 95% deep, but it's enough to keep it safe.
