Default 8700g from O2 - purchased from ebay - and.... - 11-27-2006, 07:20 PM

I'm such a 8700 noob...

anyhoo - I have an "unlocked" (We'll see) O2 8700g I got off ebay. From what I read on the forums - IF I get a password protection box (at startup) - which I did and no, I don't have the password; I can enter the wrong password 10 times, and the unit wipes its butt.. user info gone, yet...

Will I lose the cool O2 startup ? - hopefully not, but iF I need to reinstall O2 OS, the current sticky at BBF for the O2 Europe download leads to a blank page.

I'm on tmo in the US, blah blah blah - the seller claimed it worked on Cingular (NY) prior to shipping.

anyone have any experience with O2 - or more importantly

any help will be appreciated by a shout out - thanks everyone!!

You should be fine. You can't change the startup logo even if you wanted to. As far as typing the wrong password I think that will wipe the user data and leave the os. I could be wrong on that but either way its easy to load a new os if necessary. If its unlocked as they say it is, it should work fine for you.

Thanks - entering the wrong password cleared the previous owner info - and did leave the OS intact. Now, it asks for a password (I had to create my own) each time the unit is powered off. How do I bypass?

You can try Options > Security Options >General Settings and try to disable the password. The BB may have a BES IT Policy on that prevents that. If so you would need to wipe that Policy which is a little difficult.

You can look at the bottom of that same General Settings and see if an IT Policy Name is in there and the "last updated" date and time.

It's not that easy....wiping the handheld completely still doesn't get rid of the IT Policy.
