Default Is there a way to REALLY WIPE your device? - 01-06-2007, 02:57 AM

I bought the BB 8703e used and it still has the email accounts on them and even after I did a wipe device, it still has the email accounts of the previous owner.

Is there a way to really reformat this device? Or does anyone have any tips to get the email accounts out?

1. Download and install Desktop Manager 4.2 from here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22 (Be sure that the BB is not connected during install.)

2. Download and install to your PC, the latest OS for your device from here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...ry-device.html

3. Delete the file "vendor.xml" located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader.

4. On your PC, install JL_CMDER, located here: (http://www.blackberryforums.com/atta...der-v1.8.3.zip) Connect the device and use iJL_CMDER to wipe the device. Be sure that Desktop Manager isn't running when using JL_CMDER. When finished your device should display a 507 error.

5. Open Desktop Manager and run Application Loader. The Desktop Manager should then detect the device and load the new OS.

That should give you a clean, out-of-the-box device.

thanks...but at what point do i actually connect the BB to my computer? in step 5 you said connect it but before that nothing?

Also, how do I use JL_CMDER to wipe my device?'

EDIT:
Sorry I got stuck on step 4 but I found out that you click on JL_Cmder and then follow the screen. I clicked on JavaLoader.exe and it caused me confusion. I also clicked on Install.cmd and everything wiped out from what I unzipped from the JL_CMDER zip file...does that do anything?

Actually I don't think that will make a difference. It sounds like the previous person's BIS account is associated with the handheld. Even after using JavaLoader, the account will still be there. Get the previous owner to login to their BIS account and remove it, or contact your carrier to see if they will do it.

That is true, however, this procedure gets the stuff off his device. Whether the pin is still registered with another account is a whole other story. Hopefully his provider can help him with that.

Default Application loader problem - 01-06-2007, 01:59 PM

What would I do if the application loader does not find the operating system. I tried to add it but comes up with an error. Thanks

When I reinstalled the OS, I don't have a browser nor do I have an icon for "email settings"

Is there something I did wrong?

Verizon [71440]
Verizon [4d440]
Verizon [55c40]

and A LOT more...

How much data does this use? I don't have a data package right now...

The reason I ask, is because I'm on the phone with the lady right now...and I'm wondering if she puts on the data package is it worth it, or do I just use the 44.99 and pro-rate that.

Well, you're right I don't really need that right now because I'm waiting on something to go through so I can get the Unlimited Data with Verizon for (44.99).

Once you get the data plan straightened out just do the Register Now. They may even push it to you but Register now will take care of it.

Yeah, thank you very much. I called them and they did cancel the BIS account. All I had to do was give them the PIN number and they deleted the email account registered with the PIN/Device.

Thanks for the help...

Well, I just reconnected the device to my computer and installed some stuff. Apparently, their is a browser and memoPad I can install.

Is that browser going to be the same as the one I will be receiving if I do it through the "register now"?

My 7130 phone has v4.0.0.219 platform 1.8.0.129

Downloaded:
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.1.0.401 (Multilang)

Package Version: 4.1.0.401
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.1.0.321
* Software Platform: 2.1.0.26
* File name: 7130gM_PBr4.1.0_rel401_PL2.1.0.26_A4.1.0.321_Cingu lar.exe
* File size: 48.7 MB

Deleted the vendor.xml file and open desktop manager and app loader and it won't install the new OS.

Any suggestions???

Do you have a 7130e (Verizon/Sprint) or a 7130g/c (Cingular - GSM)?

When I send a BB back for replacement, I usually just use JL_CMDR to wipe the OS from the handheld completely. I let the carrier worry about reloading whatever OS they want when they refurb it.

BB devices I've owned: 957 : 7750 : 7250 : 8703e : 8830 : 9530 : 9630

BES 4.1.6.16

i cannot believe JL_CMDR really wipes the device. It works just way too fast to do that.

Keep in mind that the BlackBerry only has 64MB of memory. How long do you think it should take to wipe that small of a space.

Doug

Remember, please try searching first!

Need a screenshot? ... Like JavaLoader?
Try using BBscreen .....Use JL_Cmder!
or BBScreenShooter!

Once again... "props" to JL_CMDR...

Great App

it's the right time to crash, is it not?

Now from what my experence with the 8700 is to go into security options under the options file. Then go to the general settings and click the track wheel once. The menu should say "Wipe Handheld". If this is already done then others needing the help will benifit.

Now, if I had 4.1.0.284, can I get a new software package pushed? (Say 4.1.0.347)

That wipes out customer data only. No applications. No OS. Just customer data. That does not wipe out the BlackBerry.

The BB OS is not pushed. You must download it to a PC and install it to the BB.

a minute or two, usually. If content protection was on then it can take a couple of hours.

Pretty good chance. Many corporations force it on via IT Policy.
