Default Error 680- Using BB as modem for laptop - 01-13-2007, 06:52 PM

I am still having no luck with the sprint connection manager (after multiple times installing/uninstalling connection manager and desktop manager I cant get connection manager to recognize that my phone is plugged into/connected to my laptop), so I tried to follow the directions to use my BB for dial up with the #777 number. I get an error 680 message that there is no dial tone. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a Sprint BB 8703e and I did not enter a user name or password during the set up process.

Thanks in advance!

I don't use the Sprint connection manager....i just install the DeskTop manager.
This gives you the driver you need to set up a connection. Even if this isn'tthe machine you use to sync your BB you need to install and have running the desktop manager to get your notebook online using your BB. I actually get that same error if I try to connect without having the desktop manager running.

I have not used the connection manager so don't even know if that works at all.

1st BB, 7520 with Nextel
2nd BB, 8703e with Sprint (current)

Made the mistake and tried a treo 700p......

Default 8700 as Modem - 01-16-2007, 09:38 AM

I'm not familiar with the Sprint connection software.

I had a lot of trouble with Cincinnati Bell. Try removing all Blackberry software, any modems that were installed by Blackberry software or that you installed and removing all references to Blackberry in the registry with regedit. Then install Desktoop Manager 4.1. It should install USB sonnection and a standard modem with an associated COM port part as part of its installation process.

You must have the Desktop Manager open and showing the phone connected for the phone to be used as a modem.

Go to the installed modem on the Control Panel and make sure the modem initialization string is +cgdcont=1,"IP","<Sprint APN>" To find the Sprint APN on the Blackberry, go to Options, Advanced Options, TCP and you should find the APN.

As a test, go to the diagnostics tab in the standard modem window and click "Query Modem". If the phone responds, your modem is installed correctly. Don't worry about a few "Command not supported" responses.

Add a new dial-up connection using the "Create a new connection" wizard on the Network Connections window. You'll have to find out from Sprint what the Username, Password, and phone number should be.

Hope this helps some.
