Does anyone know if it is possible to turn off the keytones when using the phone on the 8703 ?

Unfortunately there is no setting to disable the DTMF tones.

Thanks...just got m 8703E a few days ago...I guess my 7250 didn't have DMTF tones ?

The 7250 had DTMF tones, but had different software and no speakerphone.

The obnoxious sound that you are hearing when dialing are the DTMF tones being transmitted via the speakerphone. The option can't be disabled.

RIM's 'solution' is to do one of the following:

1. Connect a headset (the tones will be heard via the headset instead of the speaker.

2. Dial an entry directly from your phone book

or the solution that I use:

Type the number you want to dial into a blank message and click on it as a "link" to dial.

Not being able to disable those tones is really stupid IMO

There has to be a way to not make a sound when dialing....what's the point of silent mode?

To silence incoming alerts. It seems that RIM overlooked the DTMF tones but who would place a call in a situation where you'd want the silent profile (meetings, at the movies or theater, etc)?

Sometimes I want to check my voicemail (my phone or my house voicemail) during a meeting and I don't want to draw attention to myself when I dial.

Well that does not make the feature magically appear. Why don't you have your voice mail setup as a hotkey anyway? They you would not have to dial all the digits, and you would not get the key tones.

You don't think that the phone attached to your ear will be noticed?
