Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Anyone on TMo having issues with the Instant Messenger app? (Not the BB Messenger, but TMo's AIM, Yahoo, MSN client)?

Mine won't start up and I reinstalled. I get a long scryptic message ending in 'screen not found'.

Anyone? Not like I can call Tmo since they haven't released 4.2 yet.

these are the new OS options i've found so far:

message colors
you can configurate seperate SMS/Mailboxes
bluetooth dialup networking (finally, use BlackBerry as a wireless GPRS modem)
new bluetooth addressbook push option for carkits without addressbook-download option
enable fast switching between "zen menu" and icons by clicking middle key (really cool this, like the BB pearl/8800). This also works in other themes like the included Dimenson-Today theme.
easy setup wizard (including enterprise activation & date/timezone setup)
new mediaplayer (like the one on BB Pearl and 8800)
addressbook can now be excluded from the content protection (so you can see who is calling while using content protection!)
BlackBerry Maps now included
it's now possible to add images to contacts (and probably see who's calling)
alot of new "contact" images are included
soundrecorder to send audio messages (but not able to save them, only SEND them)
some new browser config settings
MDS Control Center
new firewall options (block SMS/MMS/PIN/BIS messages)
GPS menu exists but it not useable because no GPS onboard 8700 (or will it do something with an external GPS?
you can now turn off GPRS while roaming to save data costs but keep GSM activated
enterprise activation will automatically switch on wireless radio if it's not enabled
new background image for incoming calls
easy to switch new mail indicator to NEW or UNREAD
Possible to Display sender/subject over 2 lines for better reading (or not...)
New bluetooth stack with better carkit/headset compatibility
Calendar/Task reminder snooze option
Dutch autotext (new for most PwC users since 4.1.286 didnt have this)
display homepage when starting browser instead of bookmarks
Browser will ask for javascript support if needed
You can select a different default browser (e.g. : Opera Mini)
You can select the preferred browser for each bookmark (since some pages are better displayed with another browser)
Browser preview mode
Possbile to send web addresses by mail/pin/sms/mms instead of only via email
You can copy addresses back to the simcard (one at a time)
Select number of vibrations in your profiles
Send pictures of sounds over bluetooth to other devices
T and B shortcuts are finally working when using the dutch language pack (this was broken in 4.1.x)

I'm still having problems upgrading to 4.2.

However, perhaps someone who has 4.2 can let me know if they have the ability to play .WAV files now?

I get .WAV's as an attachment to emails for voicemails from my pbx. I am hoping 4.2 can now provide this function.

I hope so.

Thanks.

It works. I had a GPS receiver connected and BB Maps showed me my current position.

Default New bug? Alarm failed - 04-17-2007, 03:28 AM

I use my BB as a bedside alarm.

Last night I decided to switch off the BB, so it woke itself up in the morning. Normally this would have caused the weekdaily repeating alarm to go off at the same time.

Instead, the BB *did* wake up (I heard it interfere with my radio as the GPRS fired up) but the alarm did *not* sound. Previous mornings the alarm worked, so maybe there's an "alarm fails on wake-up" bug.

Anyone else seen this?

John

Here's an interesting little feature I hadn't found until now.
The BBbrowser now holds histories for multiple days not just the current browser session. This includes (obviously...) all pages referred to it. So if you look up a page in beyond411 or another app the results will be logged in the history. A little 'heads up' for the security concious.

They shortcut keys don't seem to be working anymore. That is my only gripe. I can't just tap K to lock it, or O to get options... it sends me to the dial screen with the address book lookup with "k's" or "o's".

Has anyone found a way to re-enable the shortcuts?

Great! Thanks. I didn't even think of checking phone settings. I kept checking under options, advanced options...

That helps a lot.

Thanks.
It's worse than that. When using the Zen theme, in almost any application, I could hit the convenience button for a list of applications. This doesn't work any more, I have to go back to the home screen to select an application.

Then again, I can set the convenience key to bring up the "switch application" list, but that only lists the open applications.

Bug or feature?

Default PTT Functionality on 8700c - Cingular - 04-17-2007, 11:30 AM

someone asked if the PTT works - yes it does if you are on ATT/Cingular

I just logged into my account on the cingular web portal - added unlimited PTT (9.95 month) - then activated it on my 8700

Works like a charm

I downloaded the 59.1MB file, installed it on my machine - but nothing happens...I am still on 4.1.0.346

The file asked me to close desktop manager while it installed on my machine. Opened it after the installshield gave me confirmation - nothing happens.

Would greatly appreciate any assistance u can provide. Thanks.

The application list is gone. It's now an icon view with smaller icons than the icon theme.

You need to delete the vendor.xml file in order to load the new OS, been covered on other posts in this thread.

Best of luck, cheers!

But it's listed as an option in Screen/Keyboard Options. Shouldn't the convenience key always produce this list, either in text or icon form, regardless of whether we're on the home screen? I used to use this all the time, and I know I'm going to miss it.

No, The application list is now the icon view. The view has been replaced. This is how it is on 8100 and 8800. It's here to stay.

Can't get the colored messages to work, which theme does it work best?

Default Supports Bluetooth Modem Profile - 04-17-2007, 03:03 PM

I was able to pair my 8700c with 4.2.1 with my MacBook Pro, and now it can see the phone as a bluetooth modem!

There's a website out there with a 8100 modem script that might work -- but I'm having WAP issues in general with my phone so I can't verify -- I'm getting authentication errors.

Someone else might want to try?

I guess I'm the only one, but frankly I hated the stupid list view in the zen theme. It was the only reason I stopped using that theme. Why have a widescreen display, and then go use a small list like that? It doesn't make sense to me, I couldn't stand it. I felt like I was using a Pearl screen.

I like the new icon menu.

Does anyone have any idea why I would not have the "change message color" option under the security setings?

It is not there. I am on BIS with Cingular- 8700C

Oh- one other thing- had my first crash ever of my BB today- using BBmaps. Completely shut the unit down in mid use. Had to restart, never happened before.

Frankly I hadn't noticed! I didn't use it alot and when I didn't I didn't check out my bill that closely. Maybe I better! But I have the Tmo unlimited data, Corp BES, 1000 minutes. They still charge you for text?? That's kind of a sham.

Browser preview mode

T and B shortcuts are finally working when using the dutch language pack (this was broken in 4.1.x)

Two questions:
1. Where do you set the two-line message option? Mine doesn't have it in Email, Options, etc. Maybe it's a theme thing??
2. You can set Opera Mini as the default browser? I can't. I have Opera Mini installed, it works, but not an option under the Settings, Browser where you normally set it. Maybe because it was a "restored" app after the upgrade versus a straight OTA new install??

Sounds like you're on the $79.99 Minutes & Mail Enterprise. If so, you're fine, as M&M plans include unlimited SMS text messaging.

I love T-Mo!
