I just tried Opera Mini 3.0.6540 with Optus 4.2.1.126 and it does not work. Like Opera Mini 3.1, it just hangs with the word "Loading..." displayed at the bottom.

I can't even figure out how to post here. I should just give up on getting my tethered modem to work after this upgrade.
Any ideas?
Loved this feature and used it often. (T-Mobile)

I am running OS 4.2 on T-Mobile and the tethering of my Blackberry as a modem still works. I was using my Blackberry as a modem with OS 4.1. After upgrading, I did not have to do anything special to get it to work. Worked just like before.

The 4.2 handheld release in the sticky is different from this release. I wonder where OPus carrier is from. Maybe China. Anyone have any upgrade problems with an 8700c from Cingular?

The prior 13 pages on th is thread would of helped in answering your question. You need to delete vendor.xml so that the Desktop Manager will update your BB.
Let us know if you have further problems. Best of luck, cheers!

Greets,
Anyone test this new optus(chinease) version? How does it compare to this version? Somone said it fixes the .mid bug? If so the version numbering system is weird.
Thanks!

I don't think there is much difference.. As far a normal user perspective.. Some of the more "power" users may have a different take on it..

Loaded 4.2 3 days ago. I'm not sure if anyone noticed this, but....
I know everyone remembers when 4.1 came out dialng from the address book was a task. On 4.2 You can now enter the first few letters of the contacts name on the dial screen and it will lookup the contact on the bottom. Also if you scroll to the contact, a list of phone numbers for that contact will drop down, making it easier to dial.
Try it

Which version of the Chinese OS did you install?
I installed the Chinese OS 4.2.x from the sticky post. I have the same issue which I could not click on the trackwheel and select unlock the phone. I would have to press * and send to unlock the phone.

No problem here. I set a short/simple to type password and can unlock simply by directly typing the password and enter. E.g. kkll[enter]

Just a few things I have noticed and wondered if anyone else has noticed same things or perhaps found a workaround...
-I have the autoback light option turned off but the screen still dims at certain times.
-When a calendar reminder comes up, I used to be able to press "S"nooz, "D"ismiss, "O"pen...but now I have to scroll and select the option I want.
-In certain areas, I have very, very hit-and-miss coverage...previously if I composed an SMS and clicked on send, if there was no coverage at that time, it would send once coverage was available again. Now, it will try for a few seconds, and then give a Red X and Protocol Error.
Also, someone mentioned that you can use different colors for messages. I am on BIS and haven't been able to find this option. Does this only apply to BES users?
Thanks!!

A few comments/questions:
1. My key repeat rate is very slow. i.e., I hold down the del/backspace key and the cursor deletes characters at a very slow rate. Is there a setting for this?
2. I've found that most of the lag problem is on the home Zen screen. In that theme, the tag for each icons fades in and out as they are selected. I guess this takes some processing power or otherwise causes the delay -- notice when you go to the detailed applications page, you don't get this delay.
3. "Preloaded pictures" are now locked. I used to delete these to free up as much memory as possible, but I can't figure out how to do that now. Anyone know?
4. Blackberry Maps or Google Maps? I've been using Google which I like. Any reason to switch to Blackberry?
Overall I like it.

This is great in my opinion. I used to have the problem of my 8700 unlocking while in my pocket and dialing the last person called/call received. This extra step makes that much less likely. I like to drop my 8700 in my pocket instead of using a holder when I am not working.
This happens and people hear your conversation- OK if you are not talking about anything specific but not so great if you are out with friends at a "club" and call home by accident, that kills a Super Bowl party pretty quick-happened to a good friend.

Great tip- would not have found that as I hold the dial key down to get addresses- I do not type in # field. I like the way it shows the number options also.

Just a quick couple of questions,
Is this still a beta release or is this an official release?
If it is not an official release, any idea when it would be official?
Thanks,

This is an official release for that carrier(Optus, TelefonicaVenezuala etc..). I am a Cingular customer and it is not yet available from Cingular- no idea if it will ever be available from them but I do not care as this version works on the 8700 regardless of Carrier.

re: 4.2 quirks -
04-23-2007, 01:44 PM
I have been using 4.2 for almost a week on my 8700r, and have had some minor irritations, and I thought I'd write them down for everyone.
> Call Forwarding screen different to 4.1 (missed call, busy, and ... missing, only direct call forwarding available)
> Backlight does not function the same as 4.1
> difficulty stopping web browser when attempting to load a page and changing your mind
>sluggish application switching
> No list view on the center button
Cheers,
Rob

I have more options available and use it all the time on 4.2 same as earlier version. Here is what is listed under Phone>Options>Call Forwarding:
o Forward all Calls
Do Not forward
o Forward Unanswered calls
If Busy +xxx-xxx-xxxx
If No Reply +xxx-xxx-xxxx
If Not Reachable +xxx-xxx-xxxx
When I click call forwarding it lags, there is a "please wait" bar and the BB communicates with something (arrows in top right corner). This could mean that it is from the carrier not on the OS..?? just a thought.

I've noticed how bblight behaves differently. Until 4.2 my 8700g would remain unlocked with the light on when on external power. This is no longer the case - the bb will lock (password timeout) and then the backlight will cycle on and off. I really miss how it used to function.

File message to "deleted" folder -
04-23-2007, 03:56 PM
With 4.1, I was able to file a message to the deleted folder by hitting "return" key when selected deleted items folder. Does not seem to work with 4.2. Anyone else run into this/know a work around? Thanks.

I did but that doesn't seem to be a good solution for me - it just turns the backlight on all the time if I read it correctly. With 4.1 I had selected remove holster and external power and it worked just like I wanted. What was very nice is when I was in the car and hooked to the charger - say on a long trip - the bb didn't lock up (as it does per my corporate security profile).

I don't think there is solution to enable a bug the previous OS have.

i installed the new OS during the weekend.. upon installing it i noticed there was a lag on switching apps... i turned off my BB and removed the battery..my bb no longer lags.. maybe yall should try that .. I am using the ZenTOday theme which is my favorite...
One COn of having this OS is that my Yak-On crashes here n there but i guess yak-on will be no more since BB will be releasing a new AIM software sometime soon i hope!!! but until that releases I will have to use Yak-On which is my favorite app in my BB other then Google MAP ... for those yak-on users that use AIM a lot i would avoid installing this OS!!!
I AM LOVING THE NEW OS!!!! I dont see a purpose of upgrading to a new handset (BB 83XX) with this new OS.. maybe later on the year i can see myself purchasing a new BB
