Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/107)

4.2 right there in the path name. That should be it.

I installed the Venezuelan software but the Build still indicates:

4.1.0.377

Is this right?

Thanks

Ok, please forgive my newbieness, but I have a few questions about wiping down the unit then applying the new OS.

After wiping down the unit with JL Loader what is the order of operation to reload the OS? I have the Venezuelan software ready.

I dont think so. Did u install the right file from the site? The file should have indicated 4.2
I need some help understanding the order of operation to install a new OS.

I have wiped down the BB using JL. I have the 4.2 software here. How do I go about installing it?

Thanks

Install Desktop Manager 4.2 SP1 to your PC if not already.
Install the OS 4.2 software to your PC.
Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
Plug in BB and run Desktop manager. It will prompt you to upgrade the BB.

do it in this order please.

John,

All done. The problem I had was that there were 3 other versions still tied to my desktop manager and I also did not delete the vendor file. The new os is running and so far so good. I'm actually seeing a much better speed compared to the last os.

Now I'm just hoping this resolves the pesky freezing issue I've been having over the past several months.

Thanks to all of you!

Paul

I successfully installed the Venezuelan version. I couldn't restore my address book, or better yet the restore button is grayed out, as well as I cannot even synch my Outlook 2007 with my 8700 the button is grayed out as well. However, I think I may need to upgrade the Desktop Manager to 4.2.1.17b from Tmobile, the one I had was the official first Blackberry Release of 4.2. I will keep you posted on this topic. Also, the new OS is slow as hell. I also get the java error when listening to ringtones. This OS has bugs up the @SS, but I love the new Vodafone theme, it shows you a window that contains Emails, SMS, and Calendar for the day. The Venezuelan version also comes with nice new corporate style ringtones as well.

Cross that out, now I got the restore and the sync button to work. The upgrade of the Desktop Manager fixed it. Make sure you guys have the up to date versions of Desktop Manager. Hope TMobile releases the 4.2 OS soon before I go nuts.

HELP!!!
Don't blame me; i am a newbie! I tried upgrading to the 4.2 and i have messed up my BB. I use an 8700v. The upgrade seemed to be going well until initialization. The device froze and showed an error code 506 or 507. It has since refused to come on. I have removed the battery and put it back and all i get is the hour glass for awhile and it goes off and then comes on again and again. It seems to me like there is no software on it again.

Any ideas please!

A 507 indicates (as you suspected) that there is no OS on it.

Connect the BB and restart Desktop Manager. Start Application Loader if it doesn't start up.

Thanks. There is a problem with that. The device does not stay connected to the Desktop Manager. Looks like i have bungled it all up. It connects when the hour glass comes on and disconnects when it goes off. I then get a message that there is no software upgrade on the device connected.

I have searched all over this site for a solution to "app error 506" which my BB is displaying after I loaded OS 4.2 and there seems to be nothing on it. The phone screen is gray and says app error 506 reset.

I have done all I can but I am not getting a solution. Is this the end of this device?

Hard reset takes about 2 mins for me, that's been constant on all the 4.2.1 releases

No, 8703e does not have an available 4.2.1 package and there is none on the horizon

I recommend the Optus one because it's the most stable one out of the three.

It's a carrier decision when software is released.

You won't even be able to install the 8700 software on the device so damage is not really an issue.

Research In Motion develops the OS's (all of them) and sends them out to the carriers for testing on their networks. The carriers decide when to release them to the public.

Thx, but I realised the optus is not a multi-lang version. The hungarian language is not supported. :(

Have searched and couldn't find this situation.....I downloaded 4.2.2 from bb website and deleted vendor file. Installed the dm just fine on my computer. I plugged in my bb and it reads "connected to Desktop" and on my computer it indicates it is connected and working......this has been going on for 30 minutes....is this right? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

No, that's not right. I've had that happen before, though. I don't know what causes it. Unplug the BB and close Desktop Manager. Then you may need to remove the battery from the BB to reboot it. Then try again.

I had a similar problem. What I idd was go into remove programs and removed the BB desktop manager as well asn anything else related to the BB.

Then I downloaded a new desktop manager as well. Hooked up the BB and it worked.

Desktop software is not handheld software. Verizon still only offers 4.1.0 for handheld

Awnser YES to back up your data before hand because when you upgrade an OS you're wiping out the data

And trust me Ive experimented with each new release of the 4.2 OS you WANT a clean slate so it is not as buggy

An automatic backup and restore is part of the upgrade process. It will do the backup and restore unless you specifically select it to not backup and restore.
