Why are the carriers like that holding the software back what is the reason for that? More testing?
Hope they come out soon.

If you have one of the new Intel based Mac's I would recommend using parrels. It allows you to install Windows Vista or XP if your choose and run it. It is apple version of VMware. But much easier to setup and use.

Than you need to do is load your desktop manager into the windows install and your ready go.

I am a linux user and I almost never use windows except for my BB and I do something close to what you are going to do. But you have it way easier than I did.

Cheers

I currently have 8700C_PBr4.2.1_rel126_PL2.3.0.67_A4.2.1.85_OPTUS.e xe loaded on my 8700c through AT&T the speaker or rintones are very quiet when maxed out. I can never hear the phone going off.

I was curious if I install 8700M_PBr4.2.1_rel155_PL2.3.0.79_A4.2.1.96_ATT.exe has anyone noticed or had issues with quiet speaker when the volume is maxed to the top?

also I can hear the caller fine when I'm talking it is just the notification I cant hear.

Is anyone having problems with the phone service after installing v4.2? I have the 8700g and all of my phone calls have been cutting out ever since I installed it.

Is anyone else having a battery drain issue after installing the 4.2 OS for ATT? I'm wondering if I'm using more power, or if the battery meter is finally functioning properly after the new OS.

After installing 4.2 on my T-Mobile 8700g, I lost the Send option from composing and replying to emails. Resending service books didn't help (tried resending and deleting first then resend) and neither did a reboot. Tried wiping and redoing the upgrade and no luck. I did notice while I was doing the enterprise activation that I don't get any mail settings from the BES (normally there are about a doze or so services activated but with 4.2 only see 4). I think that is the issue. Downgrading to 4.1 works fine.

T-Mobile will be officially coming out with the 4.2 upgrade in 2-3 weeks. I just got my hands on it from a t-mobile regional sales engineer. the version # and info can be found here:

ulcards, Welcome to the forums.

The link you referenced is not the latest 8700 OS and I don't recommend that one. Check the sticky at the top of the 8700 forum for the latest OS for the 8700g/c. There are instructions there as well.

Here is a link:

Same here on 2 of my US Tmobile 8700g's. It's definitely not 'all' of my calls.

I'll call someone or answer a call and it shows Connected but I only hear some clicking noises but no voice. Re-dialing doesn't help. There are full bars. A battery pull fixes the problem for the next call.

I'm going to try the 'official' tmobile 8700_v4.2.1.91.exe now that it's out.

1. Is this a bluetooth headset? What kind? Is it in the list of bluetooth devices under Options >Bluetooth?

1a. "Data Connection Refused" means you have no Blackberry Data Plan on your account.

2. You need the Desktop Manager software. You can get it here:

BlackBerry - BlackBerry - Sys Req V4-2 Pack 2

3. To assign the middle convenience key to something do the following: Go to Options >Screen/Keyboard >Scroll down to "Convenience Key Opens" and select the application of your choice for the key.

Question 11-05-2007, 04:05 PM

Hi: I just upgraded to 4.2 on my 8700r and it works fine. Only thing is that now when I remove BB from my holster, I can no longer unlock it using the thumbwheel; I now have to enter "*" + Call button.

Any thoughts here??

Wmerkis, welcome to the forums.

That's just how the unlocking is now. No way around it.

Many thanks. I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Also, do you know of any way I can use a "today" theme but have more than two messages and/or two Calendar items displayed on the main page? is there any way to customize themes anyway???

I hate to correct one of my favorite posters but there is a way to correct this.

Well, kind of. That's how you prevent it from locking in the first place (If it's not required by an IT policy.) However, if locked there is no other way to unlock it. This came with the 4.2 OS's and has been that way ever since and no way to change it.

That's right. I can certainly use the Security Options to prevent it from being locked in the first place when holstering, but it is the "unlocking" that's problematic. As John mentioned, it looks like i will ave to live with this one ... Hardly a major problem, but annoying nevertheless. Thanks!!

Default Does this work? - 06-12-2008, 12:57 PM

I downloaded BlackBerry 8703e BlackBerry Device Software v4.2
from Verizon (my carrier), and I'm crossing my fingers. I installed the new
System software and a couple new apps (for fun).

I'm trying to get rid of the message:

Cannot install MDS Runtime due to the following dependencies being
missing:

net.rim.platform.ecmascript
net.rim.blackberry.crypto3

etc

I'll let you know if it works.

Every version of the OS comes in English regardless of what carrier released it. For Spanish you'll need a version that is labled multilanguage.
