I need help!! I installed the upgrade and the BB starting working slow very slow...just this morning i desided to roll back to 4.1 and it got hung up on the "connecting with devide" after the installation was performed, but now the BB is rebooting itself and there seems to be no workaround for it.

I got this as well, I think it's a bug of the OS or something ans since my device always on vibrate, it does not bother me that much.

Loaded 4.2 on my T-Mobile 8700g last night. So far so good. No problems encountered. Just a pain to have to reset all of your profiles. Now running App: 4.2.1.66.

try attaching your BlackBerry to the usb cable without the battery in it. Then launch the application loader and load your OS.

Well!!! After having several heart attacks!!! I was finally able to bring the BB back to live with the applicable jl_cmder. THANK YOU VERY MUCH WHO EVER CREATED THIS TOOL!!

In regards to the upgrade, i don't recommend it since it's extremely power hungry!! All of the resources of the equipment get hung up in just 1 application and it dramatically slows it down to the speed of a MDA or Treo 600.

My recommendation is don't due the upgrade if you use the BB for your daily business activities.

Regards,

I don't find it too slow when I do normal everyday activities. If I try I can make it hang up when browsing through certain things, but its only if I am in a rush. Can someone give me some examples of when it lags on them.

I must be doing something wrong, or right.

I installed the software yesterday about an hour before work was out. 8700g on a company BES server. I have yet to experience any problems what so ever. I am on Edge which is a subsidiary(yay spelling) of Cingular. I have not had to reset any profiles or any other settings for that matter. Everything was exactly how I had it when I was running 4.1 OS. I have yet to experience lag on it (knock on wood).

I agree, no lag here at all. It runs as fast or a little faster than it did with 4.1.

Is it just me or does it seem like most of the reported problems are coming from 8700g's, not 8700c's?

Well...I'm happy to know that at least is working properly in some models. My best recommendation, what I'll be doing, is to wait for T-Mobile to release the upgrade.

Cheers!!

One other point that no one pointed out is that even with the OS4.2 upgrade there still is no option for voice dialing. Must be a hardware thing I suppose then.

Anyone find this feature and I am just missing in?

Why would it be a hardware issue? I think it would be software I can send voice notes....

I read over things real quickly so I may have missed it, but is anyone having trouble organizing and hiding icons using the new 4.2 OS?

Everything else seems to be working fine. I love the caller ID, updated bluetooth profiles, and new direct dial features. The only thing that annoys me is the phone lock and having to press * (send) to unlock my phone.

I did the upgrade last night, and I'm not that impressed.. after deciding to take some time off from my Pearl, I figured that the 8700 with 4.2 would be a good intermediate point till the 8300 came out.

Neat Things:
(I'm not sure if this has been found already) If you go to "Messages->Options->General Options->SMS and Email Inboxes" It then gives the options to have the inboxes "Theme Controlled" "Combined" "Seperate".

Also, I think the speed has improved.. no hourglasses at all.

Lame Things:
No VAD.
No "holding mute down for super keypad lock" Now, if you hold down the mute button it changes your profile from Normal to Vibrate.
No MyFaves-- someone may correct me on this, but I dont have the Icon so I'm gonna assume it's not there.

Weird Thing:
When I'm in Yahoo Messenger, and I click on a contact to send a message it defaults by sending me to "Contact Details" instead of "Open Conversation"

These are the things I've found after 12 hours of playing with the new OS

Well the reason I say it is hardware is the fact that the 8800 OS4.2.1 has VAD I believe. I may be mistaken, but I think that is what was said. Our OS4.2.1 doesn't contain this so I just figured it was something to do with hardware.

This is a service book issue and OS issue as MyFaves does not come by default unless you install TMO's OS.

Previously used Wave Icons theme I believe. (Have tried a number of the themses on the device to see if it was theme related and no dice.)

I don't even have to explain the problem, it is adequately explained here with no apparent resolution:

I have searched around and found a couple other instances of it mentioned in the forum, though never with any resolution.

Any help or insights would be appreciated.

Thanks!

In response to my earlier posting; with some more research I found this:

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/searc... 200%208675585

Even though I am using Exchange and not Notes as the tech note pertains to, the problem seems to be exactly as stated. RIM says this is a "feature" of the 4.2 OS... How can this be? I just don't get it.

Any thoughts?

WHOA! I actually like the "hold mute to switch in/out of vibrate" thing...that is neat. Thanks for the tip.

Also, what's this "direct dial" you speak of? Are you talking about dialing from home screen? What changed?

I'm having a problem install 4.2 on my phone. What exactly is the process to loading it. I ran the program then plugged in my phone than opened up the desktop manager and nothing. Nothing happens. Can someone assist please. I'd be very grateful.

Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

then plug in the BB again and run DM.

Anyone having problems getting their BES-based browser icon or service book to their handheld? I'm on BES with TMo and uprade to 4.2. this appears to be the only thing not working, although I had to wipe the device because my enterprise activation got a IT Policy Rejected error. So much for the auto install/restore.

One positive finding with 4.2 on the 8700G is that myself and 2 friends who also installed it yesterday were consistently having random and strange problems with the bluetooth integration with systems built into our cars and how they worked with the 8700. (2 of us have Land Rovers the other a BMW.) With this upgrade all problems with the bluetooth telephone integration have seemed to disappear and even some new or now usable functionality has popped up.... (Certain numbers appearing on different screens in the car where before it used to just be a "1", quicker response to start/end call from steering wheel buttons, less crackling during certain parts of the call [ring, loud talkers], etc.)

I have no idea why but I cannot seem to get this installed. When I use the application Loader it never shows the 4.2.1. It only shows the 4.1.1., so uninstalled the 4.1.1 and now it doesnt show any to install. Anyone have this similar problem?

Installed Desktop Manager 4.2.whatever (newest one from the Rogers site) and installed it, then installed the 4.2 OS and put it on the Blackberry. The upgrade went fine and everything is on the device like before, only thing I had to do is rehide some icons because it changed to the Vodaphone Today theme. Profile settings stayed the same, all OTA programs stayed the same as well. Didn't have to resend any service books from my BIS accounts. Reconnected to the BES no problems as well. I like it so far, seems to work pretty well IMO.

As stated on previous posts you need to delete vendor.xml file or rename the file (i.e. vendor.xml.old).

This error usually appears when installing a MSI based setup, and you have your 'My Documents' redirected to an unavailable network drive. Open a 'command prompt' and type 'net use'. Check to see if the U: drive is OK (and not 'disconnected'). Or set the 'My Documents' folder back to the default location.

Maybe I am missing something, are people talking about the main screen when it's locked? I just start typing my password and it works, or hit the enter key to bring up the password box.

I don't think this has anything to do with the upgrade, my Yahoo did this on the 4.1 OS as well.

My lock/unlock works exactly as it did before. I take it you do not have a password on your BB. I password protect everything.

The file size on the device memory is limited to 2.something MB.
So a full length song would only work of it is encoded in a lower bit rate...

Ready to try this on my 8703e (Verizon). Has anyone tried it on this carrier/model?

It will not work with your 8703e since this is an update for the 8700 only. Sorry that you cannot update, but you are going to have to wait.
