Does anyone please know if this fixes the low ringtone volume problem in the TelefonicaVenezuala 4.2?

I downloaded the simulator for this version, and found 2 more O2 themes (zen, and today varieties) included.

Incremental bug fixes. That's about all you'll see in future 4.2.1 versions too.

But do those incremental bug fixes include a fix to the volume problem? It's really low with the Venezuala OS.

Anyone? Please?

I didn't really notice a volume issue with either bundle.

My logic is that higher versions are almost always better regardless of whether or not bug X has been fixed. Not always the case, but usually is.

With an edited blackberry.alx file all you will see is "update" next to "core applications." Just finish out the process and it will install the new themes.

since I'm new in BB, never done this upgrade before, and reading those posts above, could someone help me out?

-- Can this latest version transfer picture/ringtone (especially mp3) directly from PC using USB? (my Desktop Mngr is already v4.2)

-- If there is problem with Opera, then what freeware browser will work?

-- If there is a problem during installation, how can I recover my current s/w? (i don't have the original file)
Currently: v4.1.0351 (platform 2.0.0.143)

-- where is the location of vendor.xml?

Many thanks.

-- Yes

-- I don't know of any, I've gone back to the default browser.

-- You can download a package from your carrier and install it the same way. If you follow instructions you shouldn't have to worry though.

Well...I'm one of those users that would rather wait for my service provider to offer the upgrade, but since I'm in desperate need of the wireless two way synch with Gmail and Yahoo! I installed the version 4.2.185 which has the 2.3.0.67 platform. So far no issues have been presented with the functionality of the device. Also to my surprise hotmail is available!!!

One question...it's true that this 2.3 platform will offer calendar synch OTA?? So far nothing new with my Calendar. I'm using T-Mobile.

Thank you in advance for the information.

I removed the "~" everywhere it was in the lbs.alx file. How do I then get that to load onto the BB? I have opened DM after the change and nothing happens- I tried changing the name of the file-I tried forcing it thru during the App Loader file.

I want BB MAPS and do not have it.

I have the Optus 4.2.1.85 and have added the updated ALX for themes, this is what I am missing for a full update--Please help.

Thanks,
John

EDIT: I got it after resetting BB and running DM again.

Thanks

If you've edited it properly or have used Jibi's all you have to do is open Desktop Manager and run Application Loader. You should see "update" next to "core applications" in the list of installed applications. Finish the installation process. DO NOT attempt to use the "add" feature as you do for other .alx files for adding 3rd party software.

First of all, I have no idea what you've done to the .alx file. Where did you get it? Did you edit it yourself? You keep referring to it as the .axl file. If you named it blackberry.axl it won't work either.

Jibi edits the blackberry.alx files and posts them in a sticky in the Themes/Ringtones/Wallpaper forum for all to download and install. Instructions are included there. Some have posted on how to edit the .alx file yourself which is fine but leaves quite a bit of room for error and problems.

We need more info on what you've done with .alx's in order to help you.

Sorry!!! I got this file from the first page of this thread. I downloaded and unziped to the :\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.2.1.85_P2.3.0.67 as instructed on the same page.

Still it does not work.

Do you have the correct balckberry.axl file to install for unlocking the themes??

Thank you once again.

Hey All,

I thought this version creates a seperate SMS folder. I had that with my previous version, using Dimensions-ZEN theme, but the new Dimension-ZEN theme is different, and no matter what Theme I choose, there is no seperate SMS folder.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do to get it back?

AND, what is with the red font. Anyway to change that to black?

Michael

Go into Messages, Options and you can select a separate SMS/MMS box.

The red font is for PIN messages.

I have had a separate folder for SMS under Zen theme, in both versions I have tried, telefonica and optus.
The icon is different from the old 4.1 version, looks like phone sitting on sheet of paper.

Thanks, got the seperate message folders.

The red is not for pin messages, at least on my BB, ALL received messages are in red, and sent are in black.

Also noticed the low volume, and I tried raising the volume in speaker phone mode, and all other ways, it is still quite low, AND, I have 2 Dimension Zen themes, one is "Dimension Zen" and it works, and "Dimension-Zen" and it does not work. I believe when I was with the other OS, the one I chose was "Dimension-Zen", I wonder if there is a way to get that back?

Thanks,
Michael

Seperate Folders:
General Options>SMS and Email Inboxes>change option
I don't use that so I don't know if it will do what you want.

What red font?

Edit: I got distracted while writing reply and you got your answer

I noticed a post regarding Yahoo and Cingular now working together on this OS. I have my domains hosted by Yahoo but route it thru Gmail for instant e-mail. I still have the old BIS (1.8 ?) and use a setup developed to get that instant e-mail but get no reconcile features.

Has anyone been able to check if Yahoo e-mail addresses will provide reconciliation with the BB on Cingular BIS with this OS?

No, the ringtone volume is low in this release as well. I would equate the volume to "Medium" in 4.1 releases. :-/ Kinda sucky if you ask me, because I considered the "High" volume in 4.1 to be too quiet to begin with.

There's O2 zen and today.

The simulators can be found here
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...897474079C1477

EDIT: I should mention that getting the themes out of the simulator package and onto a device requires javaloader and a fair level of comfort with the blackberry platform. The themes are also not readily usable on the sim.

I'm not convinced that this OS is an improvement over Venezuala. As noted above, the volume issue is not fixed. And the Vodafone Today theme is actually worse. With Venezuala, it shows your current profile in the phone and email apps - that is removed here. Not a biggie but I don't see any advantages except for Chinese. I think that I'm going back.

Simply replace your Blackberry.alx file with the downloaded one and open Desktop Manager and Run Application Loader. "Core Applications" will show "update." Finish the installation. The BB will reboot and you'll have new themes.

The themes may be on your BB already. The B&W theme can be difficult to navigate but do your best. Find the swiss army knife icon (that's Options or settings) and then go down to themes and try switching.

The B&W theme (no theme) happens when the theme that was on the BB is gone. It doesn't automatically switch to another theme. It simply loads no theme at all.

make sure the blackberry.alx you downloaded is for the OS you have installed. Did you download the blackberry.alx in the first post of this thread?
