Anyone having any issues with YakOn with an 8700 with the new OS and T-Mo. Made sure the TCP was set to wap.voicemail.com, but I get the error "Could not sign on to MSN after 3 tries...."
I KNOW the username and password is correct, I checked it with the MSN Messenger software I have. Anyone have any other ideas. I contacted Softcentral but thier support is a little slow.
Thanks,
Michael

Hey, I have a question... I first downloaded and executed the initial Valenzuelan version .66... I have not loaded it to my BB. Only expanded it and removed the xml file. It is ready to update my OS, when I open DM, it ask to update.
However, now, I would really rather go with the Chinese version .85. I have it downloaded right now, is all. I have not executed it.
How do I kill that .66 update and not have them both... i need to kill the .66 update ready to run?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
Go to windows control, add and remove program and uninstall the software.

Your APN should be set to wap.voicestream.com, not wap.voicemail.com.

So once again, my damned BB failed spectacularly at displaying Chinese despite upgrading. I'm starting to wonder if I should restart with a virgin install (i.e. no restoring of any information). Anybody else out there think that this might resolve my problem of not being able to display Chinese characters?

During the upgrade, are you sure that the Chinese language modules were checked off (i.e. to be installed) during the upgrade? When I upgraded using the Chinese version of 4.2, ironically, these packages were not selected by default, I had to place a check mark in the appropriate boxes. If they were checked off during your installation, one other suggestion I would make is to use desktop manager to uninstall the Chinese language support. Reboot the handheld. Then re-install the Chinese language support modules.

Ya, I selected chinese, both simplified & trad. Interestingly enough, even though I'm not able to view chinese characters in emails, I am able to view chinese characters in text messages. How jacked is that!

Hi,
I installed this 8700C_PBr4.2.1_rel126_PL2.3.0.67_A4.2.1.85_OPTUS.e xe and however, my BB 8700c still shows V4.1.0.309 and not 4.2.1 - is there anything I missed here? Thx...

Then you didn't install anything. Did you delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader ?

Went back to 4.1 -
04-27-2007, 04:53 AM
I tried both 4.2 releases and while I didn't have any major issues, two were enough for me to go back to 4.1. 1) Volume was noticably lower on ringtones and alarms and 2) I could not paste in some entry fields in the browser. Not enough good stuff to justify "upgrading" at this point. Speed was also a bit slower with 4.2

yea, I know it won't work but within that string it says the update would be available in about 2 weeks for the 8703. It is now the end of the 2nd week.
Thanks for the reply though

Don't hold your breath based on a rumor. The 4.2 OS for 8700 has been talked about for months and it is just creeeping out now and it is not even on any big carriers in US (eg Cingular).

T mobile 8700g on BES -
04-28-2007, 07:15 PM
I have an 8700g from my large corporate employer on BES...seems like if I try these upgrades it will totally mess up the device since so much is controlled by my corp IT people??????? Will I have to wait until t mobile official upgrade and for my company to decide to make it a system wide update..if this every happens ????
Also, was playing with a Pearl today and noticed that its Calendar app in the Agenda view had an option to show days with no appointments...does the 4.2 update for the 8700 add this functional feature?
thanks

I installed 8700C_PBr4.2.1_rel126_PL2.3.0.67_A4.2.1.85_OPTUS.e xe on my 8700g. I can view Chinese in SMS / Email / Web.
Can you view Chinese web pages? By the way, I did restore everything after the upgrade. I had the CSL Chinese 4.1.x on my 8700g prior I went on the upgrade.

About the error in lbs.alx (vendor ~102), it looks like it is a feature to, not to install BBmaps on (cingular vendor102) phone, but I might be wrong.
The error?? also doesn't affect 8700G (tmobile vendor100) phone, my BBmap was install without modifying the lbs.alx file.
To uninstall the PTT on your tmobile 8700G, you can modify your platform.alx file, from
<fileset pttApp="True" Java="1.0" _vendorID="100">
to
<fileset pttApp="True" Java="1.0" _vendorID="102">
you can also try??

Installed it and the new .alx file. So far not bad. The java error on ringtone download is gone, but it still has the unlock bug.

The unlock issue isn't really a bug. They purposely changed the unlock procedure for the Pearl and the 8800 (the first devices to run 4.2) so that when in your pocket you couldn't accidentally unlock the phone by pressing on the pearl button twice. The issue is more of a carry-over from the Pearl than a bug. It would be nice if they would revert back to the way it was....even with the Pearl and 8800.

You need to delete the vendor.xml file.
Please use the search and/or check earlier in this thread or at the link below for the instructions.

Question on changing profile on home screen in Zen Theme -
04-30-2007, 07:29 PM
I have a question for those of you running 4.2.1.85 on your 8700 and also using the Zen theme:
On the home screen it has the 5 applications on the right hand side but on the left bottom corner is the icon for Profiles. I can't (for the life of me) figure out how to scroll over to the Profile icon on the home screen. With an 8800 I would just go to the top application item and then scroll the trackball to the right and it would jump over on top of the Profile icon and allow me to change profiles right from the home screen.
I can't seem to find a way to scroll left onto the Profile icon on my 8700. Have tried "alt-scroll", "shift-scroll", and just about every other combination in hopes that I could scroll over to the Profile icon. Have tried doing the scroll combinations after the top application on the right and after the bottom application on the right side.
This isn't vital, but would be a nice, time-saving option if it is doable on an 8700c running 4.2.1.85.
Any thoughts/help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
BTW, just went back to my 8700c (from an 8800) and upgraded to this new version of the software and I am loving it. It is everything I want in a BBerry except for the camera. I had forgotten how much more I liked the keyboard on the 8700 vs the 8800. So much easier to type with no typos.
Anyway, thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the fast response. That was my guess. I was just hoping that since you can do it with a pearl or an 8800 that it might be doable with an 8700 too.

Thanks for the idea. It seems that I can't get the BB to update after I modify the various files.
I have deleted the Vendor file, and that doesn't help. I have tried to re install the OS update, and delete the vendor file, and still there is no option to update.
Anyone have any ideas. I just want to remove PTT and enable all the themes possible. I know HOW to modify the files for it (now), but I can't get the BB to update with the modified files.
BB is an 8700C on the T-Mobile network.

I'm not sure what you're going to do with the media packages...
a) Only the _w themes will work on the 8700 (I assume w is wheel and b is ball)
b) The packages in the simulator are not signed and therefore cannot be loaded on a production device because the loader is secured.

I noted that the media packages are bundled with the other today and Zen themes in the BlackBerry.alx Presumed that they needed to be loaded as well.
the _W and _B differentiation wasn't something I was thinking about...
I'll change that.

Help!!! -
05-01-2007, 05:11 PM
Looking for a bit of help from the group. I upgraded my 8700g to 4.2 OS and it seems ok but I need a bit of help. The green light no longer flashes on my unite, but the red for messages and blue for Bluetooth still flash fine. The other problem is I made a few ringtones using Coolservice.dk and my unite is giving me an error massage and will not play anything. I can however play HiFi ringtones that I download for T-Mobile. Not sure why they played with 4.1 but not with 4.2. The last thing I’m trying to find is some type of “How to “ or “Tips and Tricks” for 4.2. Thanks in advance for your help and feedback.
PS. How do you get you new messages to show in red?
Go Blue!!!
