Default T-Mobile 8700g FIRMWARE UPDATE Coming - 06-25-2007, 03:39 PM

I just wanted to announce that T-Mobile will be coming out with a new firmware version for the 8700g in 2-3 weeks. I am getting the firmware updated tomorrow around noon time by the regional sales engineer. I have not been able to use my 8700g at my office for about 2 weeks (has been VERY frustrating)

The firmware update is not to add on features per se, it is more of an update to fix a technical problem troubling the 8700g on T-Mobile's network.

Thank gosh it's fixed. For reference, please briefly read my initial post about a week and half ago outlining the issue...which this new firmware edition will be thankfully fixing:

wheew...

*FYI* I will be posting the firmware version # in this thread tomorrow afternoon, but as of now, i do not know the version

Good deal. My service has been pretty good as of late. I might want to implement this, though, just to be sure. Thanks for the update!

While I applaud your enthusiasm, unless this version is 4.2.1.155/4.2.1.96 or greater I really don't see the point. Why would I go back in time and give up features that I now use frequently? Lets just hope it is 4.2.

it's a firmware update to fix some technical networking glitch compatibility issues. you won't be seeing any new graphics or wallpaper, etc. i simply made a thread to notify people it was coming out, because many people on T-Mobile's network are having issues with the 8700 in specific areas

Default Just got the new T-Mobile 8700g Firmware - 06-26-2007, 02:57 PM

Just to let everyone know, I just got the new T-Mobile 8700g firmware today around noon-ish. It is not released yet (estimated time about 2-3 weeks). I will fiddle around with it tonight and let everyone know hows it goes.

From an immediate review, they changed the interface a little bit and it looks pretty good. You'll see what I mean when I make a post about it tonight.

peace

I got it done in the store by one of T-Mobile's Regional Software Engineers. Would I be able to use Desktop Manager and make a copy of the firmware update off the Blackberry? I don't think I'm able to do that...

Do you recall which version you were using before this? Right now I am using the 4.2.1.96 version, which seems to be the most stable so far. My MMS used to fail all the time and I would have to pull the battery for a bit in order for them to send. Haven't had this issue once while on this version. Even though not officially supported by T-Mobile, I have had no issues at all.

yes, the firmware solved the issue. it was a VERY strange issue which was only for this one particular cell site....very strange.

i like the new version, but i'll be honest, it can lag a bit sometimes. if you navigated too quickly through menus, sometimes it can stall. have you noticed this?

also, i'm presuming you have lots of wall-papers right? could you point me in the direction where i could get some good wallpapers?

When I fist put on the 4.2 handheld OS I did seem to notice that it was a little slower than the 4.1 handheld OS, initially. After some days of use, however, I didn't notice the lag really at all. Now that I am use the 4.2.1.96 version, It is really the most stable version of 4.2 I have used for the 8700g.

I actually don't have a lot of wallpapers. I did get the current one I am using from a site Free Blackberry Downloads | Themes | Wallpapers | Ringtones | Forum - Home. They have some nice ones.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

It is actually a sticky at the top of the 8700 forum. That is where I got it.

Many of the early 4.2.1 OS's had problems with 3rd party apps, includingg screenshot apps and Opera Mini, Bluetooth connectivity (GPS pucks mostly), etc. I recommend 4.2.1.96. If TMo's "big" 4.2.1 release is going to be earlier than 4.2.1.96 then nothing is gained by using their version.
