This might be an easy question, but I was wondering how I make an international call when I am roaming overseas? I have a 8700g and I am going to Dominica. When I attempt to call home (U.S.), do I enter the "+" sign then the area code and phone number? I would assume there is some sort of country code for the U.S. but I am not sure what it is.

The country code for the US is 1

+1 202 456-1414 as an example.

also make sure you set the dominica's country code under phone options once you are there. otherwise it will think you are still in US

I always save my contacts' numbers in the format that allows for transparent international dialing, i.e.,

+1 555 444 6666
+44 666 777 888 999
+91 222 333 444

Except for TFNs like 800, 888, 877, 866, etc since those don't using work outside of the U.S. or Canada anyways.

Adding the +1 hasn't created a problem when dial from the U.S. (I believe voicemail now defaults to your phone +1, for U.S. numbers). I started doing this after my first blackberry didn't have the + plus sign in front of the stored voicemail number, and I couldn't retrieve voicemail while abroad using the stored number. So since then, I've done the same for all of my contacts. It doesn't create any additional charges while in the U.S, and increases transparency while dialing abroad. The only P.I.T.A. is you may need to do a one-time modification of all of your phone numbers. If you have secretary or assistant, this is a good bit of busy work he or she can tackle for you.

Not sure if this helps, but that's how I do it.

Also, make sure you activate WorldClass calling for international roaming.

IF, by some chance the + doesn't work for you ask someone what the international access code is and use that before the country code etc. I've experienced that a time or two. I think from the Dominica it's 001 but not 100%
