Default 8700r with 7290 Leather Swivel Case - 08-20-2007, 05:10 PM

I noticed the display is not turning off when I put my new 8700 into my old 7290 leather swivel case?

Are the cases different somehow as to where the magnet is located within the case or is my 8700 not adapting well to its new home and there is some setting I may have not enabled on the device itself?

The other odd thing I have noticed with the latest software, is upon holstering the 8700 always go to my bookmarks for some odd reason?

I took a magnet and I can manually put the display into sleep mode, so that function does work, so I am at a little loss at this point. Maybe I should go try another case at the dealer and see if it works, and if it does, then I can rule out the case being the culprit.

For the 7290 case I don't know where the magnet is located, get a paperclip and run across the case and find out where the mag is located.

Since the 7290 case was actually designed for a 7290, it is quite likely it is located where the 8700 does not detect it. Likewise for the bookmarks, the 7290 case must be hitting a shortcut in the browser to the bookmarks.

Buy a 8700 case that says "with sleeper function" or "with magnet". They are all over Ebay, and some of the sponsors on this forum have great prices:

It seems the magnet is in the centre of the case near the bottom, definately in the area of the sleep sensor on the 8700.

I have now noticed that the browser bookmarks is coming up due to the button situated between the send and end buttons is getting hit upon holstering. I am sure that this 7290 swivel holster must be off a tad as I am sure anyone with an 8700 does not have this particuliar button being depressed accidentally everytime when holstering.

Since I don't know what your 7290 case is like...

Flip the BB to face the opposite way. See if the sleeper function works and the Bookmarks quit opening.

Again, it might just be compatible. The case was not made for the 8700.

Its the OEM BB 7290 leather holster from a previous BB I owned.

So when the 8700 is put into the case display side facing away from the belt clip, the middle key does not get hit but the 8700 does not go to sleep mode. The display will go off though with the regular screen timeout. This I guess can work as a temporary option, at least the display is not on all the time which I am assuming is due to the bookmarks application being opened upon holstering.

*update* Apparently the 7290 leather holster will NOT put the 8700 to sleep mode so my saga has come to end and I will buy the proper holster for my device.
