I'm using Blackberry in Armenia, and my carrier don't support Blackberries at all. So I can't use things like GPRS or MMS....only phone and SMS. As I understand I need Service List from the carrier. Is there a way to download and install that list using desktop manager?

The short of it is, no blackberry data service, then no blackberry data service (no blackberry email, no blackberry browser....). And if no data service, then no data service. You will not be able to get what your carrier does not provide.

You are certain your carrier does not support GPRS? If it does and you can use wap gateway, then I think you have some data capability. Someone else will have to advise you on that. If you do in fact have GPRS, do some searching on using blackberry without a blackberry data plan and you may find some helpful information.

Yes I have GPRS, I have used it with my old Nokia phone, but I didn't find a way to input GPRS settings in my BB

Go to options > advanced options > tcp ...... You will need to enter the info for your carrier, if you carrier allows this, by the way. Then, as I understand it, you might be able to use opera mini for web browsing. But that's getting into stuff I know nothing about. If you get the gateway working, you may have options. Beyond this, I hope someone else will jump in and provide assistance to you. In the meantime, searching the forum will be worthwhile. I know there are others here who have been in your situation.

basf, you need to find out the gprs settings for your carrier, Viva. I don't know them, and I cannot find them listed.

There is nothing at opera website for Armenia either. But I went to vivacell website and I see a page where one can get instructions based on phone make a model. Neither blackberry nor RIM are listed among the choices, but I selected from among nokia choices until I got one that supports GPRS. Could OP do same, and try the settings provided?

I was at my carrier's office and they told me that there's only one setting - in APN field I have to fill inet.vivacell.am, and leave username and password fields blank. I did it as they say and restarted the phone. But I still have the following message when I open my browser "Your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the Browser on your device".

Then talk to carrier again if needed. But you may be out of luck.

EDIT: Also, which browser? If it is the native BB browser, it is not going to work if you do not have *blackberry* data service. Look at the opera mini browser. Google it or look in aftermarket software forum if you aren't familiar with it.

I talked to them...they said that they didn't even know what is the service books........what should I do?

Resending the service books, or causing them to be resent, will make sure you have the services enabled on your blackberry that you are paying for...at least that's the best way I can explain, given what I know myself.
You indicated you have data service, but not blackberry service. Therefor, the browser that comes standard on your blackberry is not going to work. You need a browser that uses your carrier's data service. Opera mini is an aftermarket browser that might be your solution.

If you can't get it to work, contact carrier again. If the person can't help you, ask to talk to the supervisor. Repeat until you get to someone who can answer.

with out a blackberry plan you wont be sending any service books anywhere.

Ahhh........didn't know that. For info, the folks who are using opera mini on a blackberry while not having a blackberry data plan, what do they do that maybe the OP has not done or hasn't been done by carrier? He believes he has GPRS service available.

if he has a plain data plan he could still use opera but he wont be able to download anything at all. Some carriers you can use the bb on the carrier as a simple PDA (waste of money in my opinion) but thats all they can do no push mail or anything else.

Is there anyone else in your area that is using a BlackBerry on that carrier successfully?

basf, I expect you've seen the above from Dawg. My guess is try the opera mini with the apn provided by your carrier. Sounds to me like you were trying to use the blackberry browse.

I think he said they dont support them if thats the case hes kinda on his own I think.
