Default Os: 8700 (gsm) 4.2.1.107/ - 10-01-2007, 01:50 PM

It appears that US TMO has just posted their newest 8700g handheld 4.2.1.107 and desktop 4.2.2.14 (without Media Manager) software today, 2007 Oct 1.

The product version on the installer file is 4.2.1.107A/2.3.0.84P

This OS can be loaded on ANY carrier's GSM 8700 Blackberry.

Direct links to download:

8700g Handheld OS Upgrade

Instructions for installing:
This OS will work on any GSM/GPRS/EDGE 8700c/g/v/f/r

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2 and can be downloaded from the link above or Click Here.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

(link to previous OS thread: Click Here.)

Edited Blackberry.alx for themes and LBS.alx for AT&T users who want BBmaps Click Here.

The exchange 323-381-0xxx seems to be a valid TMO exchange. Pick the 3233810xxx of your choice, and it will hopefully let you through.

People who upgraded previously complained that the 4.2 made their ringer volume too low. Is this still a problem with the new version?

I upgraded, like the new OS, it works faster and looks better. Ring volume seems lower than before, but it is still loud enough for me.

Upgrade mostly worked but for a few little glitches, which are
1) Operamini no longer works, error messages says it is unable to connect to the internet. But I can use the regular BB browser. Removing and reinstalling operamini didn't help.

2) BB screen now blacks out after 30 seconds, previously it never blacked out. Can this be reset?

Any help in resolving these issues would be appreciated.

Now I did. Thanks. Another user had the same question elsewhere in this forum and got pointed to the configuration information.

Okay, stupid question:

The earlier TMO OS I was using on my 8700 (4.2.97, I think) allowed/enabled Media Manager. New OS does not APPEAR to support Media Manager, but my 8700's folders are still intact.

How do I manage those media files and folders now?

8700 - main squeeze
7230 - backup
6230 - retired

Would getting the Desktop version with Media Manager help? Do that by going to the T-Mobile BB Upgrade site and downloading the latest version for the 8230.

Where do you live? You've likely been roaming on AT&T forever, just the main screen didn't show it. Software upgrades include changes to the software that names the networks. What you're seeing is normal. If it says AT&T and EDGE, you are fine.
