crap. im downgrading again. i would rather get punched in the nads every morning than be stuck with this retarded half list half icon zen theme. the ONLY reason i gave this 4.2 upgrade another chance is for the FREE bluetooth mac tethering (unlike the lame excuse for a solution with Pulse).

There are lots of other themes out there, even quite a few that can be unlocked via the blackberry.alx file. Seems like if that's your only gripe with the OS then you are thowing out the baby with the bathwater, but to each his own.

Thumbs down 10-08-2007, 11:10 AM

a few issues that I discovered after the upgrade:

much slower then 4.1, even after removal of all the extra crap like language support, mds runtime, brickbraker - leaving only core 4.2 apps on a device fills extremely heavy, any theme with "today" screen lags big time, theme with icons only works a bit faster. Browser much slower then on 4.1
While in Google maps or BBMaps gps tracking mode, the handheld will lock it self (after expiration of password time-out) - renders gps useless if you have password on a device. Haven't used gps heavily, but with-in last 4 days device rebooted twice while in Google maps
The new profile selection menu (on click of left button) is extremely slow, it takes literally 1.5-2 seconds to appear after first click.
Thsi OS is certainly overkill for 8700, not enough processor power to run it. Will downgrade it back to 4.1

Default need more info - 10-08-2007, 03:59 PM

(There's nothing that's obvious to the user. Mostly bug fixes. Also, with .107 it's shouldn't be necessary to have a data plan to get the Instant Messenger app to work. That was their big hype with .107 for the Pearl a while back.)

In an earlier post someone mentioned being able to get the instant messenger service on need more info HOE? WHO? WHICH ONE AND HOW DO I RECOGNIZE THIS ON MY recently upgraded 8700

I would recommend wiping the device with JL_Cmder and then loading the OS back to the device.

Here's a link that will help:

How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ

To Super Moderator: Thx for your quick respond and recommended that I followed up but JL_Cmder after download/run then connect my device (removed battery) started a wipe but got blank error shown on desktop.

Default Dead end link? - 10-12-2007, 05:42 PM

Hello everyone.
I've used the link for OS 4.2, but the link for downloading 4.2 takes you to a page of phones. Can't find the software.

Default Upgrade - 10-12-2007, 09:44 PM

Just did the 4.2 upgrade on my 8700r (Rogers) . No problems whatsoever...however, I do now notice the low volume on ring tones. Will search other posts to hopefully find a solution. The ONLY reason I did the upgrade (as previously noted by someone else) was to be able to actually play/hear .wav files attached to emails, as my VoIP system sends me voicemail this way. I LOVE it!!!

It does work like before on mine. I believe you didn't set up your APN in TCP which should read: wap.voicestream.com I have Opera Mini v. 3.0.6540.

I upgraded my 8700g to 4.2.1.107 that I downloaded off of T-Mobile's website. The one thing I noticed is I do not have my internet browser or blackberry browser anymore. If I goto T-Zones and then cancel, I can browse from there. How can I get my internet browser back?

Thanks

It shouldn't be happening. Did you check among hidden icons?
