Tried this with an 8100 and while the stuff loaded when I tried to sign in to AIM it just referred me to blackberry.com/aim/ and said to register with the service. In other words it did not work.

Just out of curiosity, which OS version do you have installed on your 8700g right now?

I'm wondering if this'll work on 4.1.0.346, or if I'll have to upgrade to 4.2 and live with how much slower it is on some functions.

It's way easier to just install JiveTalk. One time $30 and it's trouble free and works with 4.1 and 4.2 OS's.

Recommend one of you to download beejive :: JiveTalk mobile messaging for 30 days free trial, if you'll like it then order it for once a time $19.95
There is read descriptions... Honest I love it to have 3 in one of aim-yahoo-msn,but also have google talk, Icq, Jabber and my space IM!!! You can log in all IM sametime with no Interrupt or disconnect better than Ramble IM. Take my word!

You can do the $19.95 version of JT but if you change devices for any reason you have to buy it again. I suggest paying the extra $10 and getting the fully transferrable license. That way, if you have to get a warranty replacement device, or you upgrade, etc. you aren't out of luck and have to purchase again.

I can confirm that this works with my T-Mobile 8700g. Although it worked with just the first group of IM clients installed. I didn't need the ICQ part. I now have AIM and MSN working with Google and Yahoo. Thanks for the instructions!

Nobody's been able to get good service books for this? How about getting it working on AT&T?

Click here for how-to instructions for using the Instant Messenger on AT&T if the other IM apps dont appeal to you.

The only problem with JiveTalk is that it doesn't come include in the BIS ;) So for people that don't have unlimited data AND BIS, ... well they're kind of out of luck!

I have unlimited usage of BIS, so all the GOOGLE APPS and E-mail and web browsing, but if I use a APN they charge (damn vodafone). So that's why people want the original apps
