Question Question about time zones and calendar appointments - 10-11-2007, 01:05 PM

I have an 8703e. I live in the central time zone and set my appointments in my calendar. I also like to refer to the clock on the desktop screen instead of wearing a watch. So what's the problem? When I travel to a different time zone, I have to always remember that the time on my desktop is still in Central time, OR if I switch the unit to the time zone I am in, all of my appointments in my calendar are moved forwards or backwards accordingly. Can anyone please share how to update the time on my desktop without moving my appointment times. Thanks.

I hate this with such a passion. Can anyone enlighten us poor souls? When I'm supposed to meet in LA at 10:00am, I really mean 10:00am. When I go to LA, I don't want the appointment switched to 8:00am for me!

The problem is, Apple and Microsoft do this too, so it appears to have been decided for us. Make all appointments in your home timezone. If you have a 10am meeting in LA and you live in the Central timezone, make the meeting for noon. When you get to LA, it will be "helpfully" moved to 10.

You could also just change the actual time on the device instead of the timezone. If you make an appointment for 3, then move to pacific time, the appointment is moved. However, if you make an appointment for 3, then change the actual time back two hours, the appointments don't move. The blackberry still thinks you're in central time, so it doesn't move all your stuff around.

I don't know if the BB will update itself when it gets cell tower signals like the Verizon phones will. Anyone know about this? Do BBs synch with time servers on the cell networks? Edit: yes it does (as mentioned in the link provided by crazydude), but you can turn it off and manage your own time. /Edit

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Maniac, you are not alone. I don't understand the anger this provokes, and I like it the way it is, but still have to acknowlege the apparent number of people who feel same as you. Search on time zone to see what I mean. Somewhere, probably several places, mods have posted the suggestion box email address for RIM.
