Default Inherited friend's old BlackBerry, a few questions - 10-12-2007, 05:19 AM

Hi,

I received a BlackBerry 8700g from a friend who no longer uses it. The BlackBerry was given to him by his company, (a large investment bank) for use on the O2 network. I myself do not use a BlackBerry and have never used one. Is it possible for me to use this BlackBerry on O2 network or is it likely to be locked to use of the company (ie completely different firmware to a normal consumer unit)? Are some functions likely to be locked out? If I just sell this BlackBerry will the new owner be able to use it?

Check out the BB FAQ. That should give you a lot of useful info on buying/receiving a used BB.

In your case, you will need to remove the IT Policies, wipe the data and make sure the person who gave it to you canceled their BIS account, if it was ever activated.

You also need to make sure that the BB is no longer need by the company and has not been reported as lost or stolen.
