Can I safely use a 2000 ma (2 amp) USB charger with my 8700?

hmm not sure? I don't recall what rating is normally used. might be okay but wouldn't leave it connected to long. Off to research

Normal USB chargers (including BB chargers) are 500 mA.

Volts are electrical pressure, amps (mA) are the maximum current rating (the size of the pipe, if you will). The Blackberry charging circuit, not the USB port, .should determine the current draw, so you should be okay.
