Question 8830: No Calendar Alerts - 10-19-2007, 09:51 AM

VZ 8830 using BES.

My calendar alerts are not appearing on the handheld. The events are listed and marked as 'Alarm' if that's the right terminology). The event does not pop-up on the screen nor do I get an audible alert.

I have verified that the default reminder is set (15 min.) and the profile includes calendar items as tone/high/1 beep, both in and out of holster. In holster also has the vibrate option set but there is no vibration.

I have tried resetting the options, setting them back, pulling the battery. Nothing seems to help.

The ring tones for the phone, etc. are working fine.

Any ideas? I'm stumped!

What do you mean they are marked as "Alarm"?

Sorry, I'm probably using the wrong term. In the daily calendar view screen, to the right of the appointment text, there are a series of symbols. From what I can see they represent invitation to others, notes, recurring and a symbol that looks to be a clock with something yellow behind it. I am assuming, probably wrongly, that it means the device should alert me via the selected ring tone for calendar events.

On a somewhat related subject, I have looked through the 8830 User Guide and cannot locate a description of all the symbols used on various screens. Does that exist anywhere?

Well it does sound as if you have all the right settings.

The only thing I would ask you to make sure to check would be that you are actually using the Profile in which you have the Calendar alerts set. You could have switched profiles and not have the calendar alerts enabled.

I am not sure of an all encompassing guide to the symbols, etc., but you will learn more than you need to know about the BB in general, at the FAQ site and Stinsonddog's Tips, both linked below in my signature.

That is why I love the Blackberry Forums - you guys are a wealth of help and information!

The answer was right there in front of me - all I had to do was read. There is a FAQ for "Why are the Calendar alerts on my 8830 not working".

The actual patch is found at: BlackBerry

It works!!

Thanks for the help.

Yep, and I should have remembered that as well, I know it, I just forgot that was a BIG issue when the 8830 first came out.

Have a good weekend.
